Ranveer Singh Bhavnani (born 6 July 1985) is an Indian actor working in Hindi films. After completing a bachelor's degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, Singh returned to India to pursue a career in film. In 2010, he successfully auditioned for a leading role in Yash Raj Films' romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat. The film emerged as a critical and commercial success, earning Singh a Filmfare Award in the Best Male Debut category.
Singh played a disguised robber in the period film Lootera (2013), a Gujarati boy in the tragic romance Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), which became his biggest commercial success and earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Actor nomination, and a Bengali criminal in the action-drama Gunday (2014).

Ranveer retourne à Mumbai en 2007 après la fin de ses études où il travaille pendant quelques années en tant que concepteur-rédacteur dans des agences telles que O&M et JWT.
Il s'essaie ensuite au métier d'Assistant réalisateur mais quitte cet emploie pour se concentrer sur sa carrière d'acteur.Il dira : "Mon ambition était de décrocher un rôle principale dans un film. Donc, j'évitais de tourner dans des publicités, des séries télévisées, des clips parce que je pensais qu'il serait plus avantageux d'être inconnu du public. C'était un jeu dangereux mais j'ai pris ce pari me disant que je donnerais le meilleur de moi-même pour décrocher un rôle principale."
Il cours les auditions et envoie ses photos et rencontres des producteurs sans grand résultats.
Trois ans et demi après son retour à Mumbai, la chance lui sourit ; il est contacté par Shanoo Sharma pour audition pour Yash Raj Films. Après des essaies concluant, il obtient le rôle priincipal dans le film Band Baaja Baaraat dans lequel il incarne Bitoo Sharma. Ce rôle lui fait remporter le Filmafare Awards du meilleur espoir masculin.

The film opens with the historic independence of Bangladesh and after the third Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Starving, two kids named Bikram and Bala are taken in by a man named Lateef (Pankaj Tripathi), who offers them to work for him, and illegally smuggle guns to other men. He cares for them until one day an army officer that they give guns to, tells Lateef to leave one of the two boys behind to work as his child sex slave or otherwise he'll take Lateef's daughter. Bikram hears this and tells Lateef that he'll stay behind in order to save Bala, his friend. Bala then comes back to save Bikram and kills the army officer. The two boys then run away, as Lateef is killed by the police.

Lootera is inspired by O. Henry's The Last Leaf. In a Gujarati village, Ranjaar, infamous for its uninhibited manufacture and sale of arms and ammunition (weapons are sold like vegetables at the place), two clans, Rajadi and Sanera, have been at odds with each other for the past 500 years. The film opens with a violent altercation between the two over petty matters. Meghji (Abhimanyu Singh), a Rajadi head, sets out to kill Bhavani (Gulshan Devaiah) who is a Sanera, after the latter tries to kill the former's son. Bhavani is almost killed but Ram (Ranveer Singh), Meghji's younger brother, intervenes and saves him, only to be reprimanded by Meghji. All the Rajadi elders are irked by Ram's mindset of making truce with the other clan.

Dimple Chaddha (Parineeti Chopra) is a spoilt brat and only daughter of Sandeep Chaddha, the creator of "Chaddha Industries", a huge property company in Delhi. Her boyfriend is Sunny Singh (Ranveer Singh), a fitness instructor at a local gym.
