Rebecca Augusta Miller, Lady Day-Lewis (born September 15, 1962) is an American film director, screenwriter, author and actress, most known for her films Personal Velocity: Three Portraits, The Ballad of Jack and Rose, Angela and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, all of which she wrote and directed. She is the daughter of Magnum photographer Inge Morath and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Arthur Miller. Her husband is three-time Academy Award-winning actor Sir Daniel Day-Lewis.

Miller first met her future husband, actor Daniel Day-Lewis, on set during the production of the film adaption of the elder Miller's play The Crucible. They were married on November 13, 1996 and have two sons, Ronan (born June 14, 1998) and Cashel (born May 2002). The film is centered on the America's Cup series of yachting races and uses them as a backdrop for both an action/adventure and a romantic storyline. It is inspired by real events, starting from the loss of the 1983 America's Cup through the events of the 1987 America's Cup. Several of the 12-metre class yachts that participated in the Cup races were repainted and used in the movie. The boat and team representing the US to win used the name Geronimo in their comeback and take back the cup from Australia. The film chronicles the life of a woman named Pippa Lee, with flashbacks to her tumultuous past. Pippa Sarkissian was the youngest child and only girl in her large Christian family. The couple marry, have two children and later move into a retirement home in Connecticut. Through her marriage, Pippa has become the "perfect wife": loving, supportive, everything to everyone and no one to herself. The couple grow apart; Herb has an affair with one of Pippa's friends and middle-aged Pippa has encounters with a younger man named Chris. After Herb dies from a heart attack, Pippa finally breaks with her life of subservience and refuses to set up the burial, leaving the details to her children. The film ends with Pippa driving off with Chris.

Jack Slavin (Daniel Day-Lewis), a Scottish farmer with a heart illness, lives on an island which had been a hippie commune decades before.
