Renzo Palmer commence sa carrière très jeune. À vingt ans il remporte un concours radiophonique. Il travaille au théâtre avec Luchino Visconti (Edipo Re) aux côtés de Lilla Brignone et Lauretta Masiero. Il a tourné au cinéma avec la plupart des principaux réalisateurs dont Ettore Scola (La Famiglia) et à la télévision avec la série télé Cavour et Napoleone.Il meurt à Milan le 3 juin 1988 à l'âge de 58 ans.

Adriano Celentano performs the role of Guido Quiller, the inventor and main patent propietor of a virtually indestructible type of armored glass which is used to secure jewelry shop windows. The success of this merchandise occurs at the chagrin of several influential insurance companies, chiefly the La Suisse Assurance in Geneva, who see their winnings from one of their most profitable income niches dwindling, and they attempt to gain the patent to the invention and then get rid of it altogether. As it so happens, Guido lives enstranged from his wife Petula, the other patent holder to the glass, who would be more accessible to the insurance companies' offers. Her condition for the divorce from Guido would be that he should transfer all his exclusive rights to the production of the Quiller glass - and thereby his whole fortune - to her, whereupon she would sell them to the Swiss Assurance and gain a princely monetary compensation in return.

Luigi Maietto aka "Chinaman" escapes from prison. As soon as he is free he assigns immediately two henchman to murder the inspector whose testimonal once led to his prison sentence. Inspector Tanzi is left for dead but survives. The local newspapers cover up for him and pretend the assassination had succeeded. When Tanzi gets better, his superior wants him to hide in Switzerland. But Tanzi defies him because he intends to make sure himself that Maietto is put back in prison. He goes for it.

When the existence of a strain of plague (vaguely identified as pneumonic) is revealed at the U.S. mission at the International Health Organization, three terrorists seek to blow up the U.S. mission. Two of them are shot, one mortally, by security personnel but one escapes. The surviving terrorist is hospitalized and quarantined and identified as Swedish. Dr. Elena Stradner (Ingrid Thulin) and U.S. Colonel Stephen Mackenzie (Burt Lancaster) (Military Intelligence assigned to the IHO) argue over the nature of the strain, which Stradner suspects is a biological weapon but which Colonel Mackenzie claims was in the process of being destroyed.

À Rome, des commerçants sont violemment rackettés par des voyous d'une organisation mafieuse dirigée par un certain Rudy le Marseillais.
