Richard Lynch (February 12, 1940 – June 19, 2012) was an Irish-American actor best known for portraying villains in films and television.
His film credits included The Sword and the Sorcerer, Invasion USA, The Seven-Ups, Scarecrow, Little Nikita, Bad Dreams, God Told Me To, and Halloween. He appeared in science fiction productions, including Battlestar Galactica (as Wolfe) and its sequel series Galactica 1980 (as Commander Xaviar). He also appeared in such shows as Starsky and Hutch, T. J. Hooker, Blue Thunder (TV series), Airwolf, The A-Team, Charmed and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
En 1962, alors qu'il travaille dans un hôtel, il se rend durant sa pause déjeuner aux répétitions d'une troupe de théâtre de Greenwich Village : c'est une véritable révélation. Sa carrière d'acteur débute alors, notamment dans le Off-Broadway. Il se met à consommer régulièrement diverses drogues.
En juin 1967, sous l'influence de plusieurs psychotropes, il s'immole par le feu en plein Central Park. Il est emmené aux urgences avec un pronostic vital engagé, le corps brûlé à plus de 70 %. Contre toute attente, il survivra à ses blessures, et subira de nombreuses greffes et opérations chirurgicales. Définitivement sevré de la drogue, il hésite à se retirer dans un monastère. Il témoigne d'ailleurs de son expérience dramatique dans un documentaire. Finalement son amour du théâtre l'emporte et il remonte sur les planches dès l'année suivante.
Son visage marqué par ses brûlures lui vaut de se spécialiser dans les rôles de méchants, ou du moins de personnages inquiétants. On le remarque d'abord dans un film prestigieux, L'Épouvantail, où il incarne un détenu homosexuel qui agresse le personnage joué par Al Pacino, mais il apparaît ensuite dans de nombreux films de genre, dont des séries B. On le voit dans un grand nombre de films de science-fiction ou fantastiques (La Neuvième Configuration de William Peter Blatty, 1980).
Il est trouvé mort à son domicile le 19 juin 2012 par son amie, l'actrice Carol Vogel. Le décès est dû à des causes naturelles. Conformément à ses dernières volontés, il a été fait don de son corps à la science.

Né dans une famille d'origine irlandaise, Richard Lynch sert dans sa jeunesse dans le Corps des Marines des États-Unis, durant 4 ans. À son retour de l'armée, il multiplie les emplois précaires.En 1962, alors qu'il travaille dans un hôtel, il se rend durant sa pause déjeuner aux répétitions d'une troupe de théâtre de Greenwich Village : c'est une véritable révélation. In Salem, Massachusetts, Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a recovering drug addict, works as a DJ at a hard rock station with her co-workers Whitey (Jeff Daniel Phillips) and Herman (Ken Foree). She receives a strange wooden box containing an album by a band named The Lords of Salem. At her home, an old downtown apartment house, she and Whitey listen to the record, which is a series of ancient string and woodwind instruments playing several notes then repeating itself.. A young woman with amnesia breaks out of a coffin in a funeral home, and dials 911 in the morgue, but accidentally unhooks the telephone while speaking to the operator. The mortician appears, and is impaled by a man equipped with a chrome skull mask, and a shoulder mounted camera. The girl stabs ChromeSkull in the eye, and runs off while he treats his wound. Cari, a college student, suddenly falls very ill. Panicked, she calls her parents, who tell her to return home. There, her parents reveal that her entire town has been cursed and demand that she sacrifice her younger brother to avoid an even worse curse. Cari initially goes along with her parents' wishes but rebels at the last second. The two siblings go on the run from the townspeople, who desperate try to find them. The film begins with a rogue agent, Maclain (Kate Orsini), in one of the rooms in the Bodega Bay Inn, reading Toulon's diary, hoping to find some secret to the formula. The diary bursts into flames. As Maclain enters the basement, she finds a man named Eric Weiss (Jacob Witkin) talking to the last Toulon puppets: Blade, Pinhead, Jester, Tunneler, and Six Shooter. Eric explains that he knew Toulon before he died, and that he swore he wouldn't pass it to anyone else. Maclain threatens Eric with a gun. Eric then takes out a tape recorder, and plays a recording that Toulon left him.

Though the novel Crime and Punishment was written and set in the 19th century, this film version takes place in the then-future setting of the early 21st century. Rodion Raskolnikov, a student in his twenties who lives in Moscow, has published a paper which he argues that certain superior individuals can legitimately ignore laws, even the law against murder. He acts out this arrogant theory by murdering an old woman, a pawnbroker, and her sister who accidentally witnesses the crime.
