Sally Yeh (葉蒨文, pinyin: Yè Qiànwén), parfois désignée par Sally Yip ou Yip Sin-man, née le 30 septembre 1961, est une star majeure à Hong Kong, tant sur le plan du cinéma que de la Cantopop.

Biography

Les films dans lesquels elle a joué incluent Shanghai Blues et The Occupant (1984), et le film de Tsui Hark Peking Opera Blues (1986), probablement sa meilleure interprétation (qui lui a valu la récompense de la meilleure actrice au Festival du Film de Hong Kong de 1986), même si son rôle le plus connu en occident doit certainement être dans le film de John Woo The Killer (1989).

Née à Taipei (Taïwan), elle a passé son enfance au Canada. La carrière de chanteuse de Yeh commença dans les années 1980 et elle a sorti un total de 30 albums dans les décennies suivantes, sans compter une quarantaine de lives et de compilations. Yeh chante en Cantonais, en Mandarin et en anglais, et sa voix lui permet d'interprêter une large gamme de genre musicaux. En plus de chansons originales, Sally Yeh a fait de nombreuses reprises de hits occidentaux, de Madonna à Céline Dion en passant par le générique de M*A*S*H.

Étrangement, elle ne maîtrise pas la calligraphie chinoise et utilise souvent des transcriptions en pinyin pour lire ses paroles en cantonais ou en mandarin.

Elle décida de ralentir sa carrière après son mariage en 1996 avec la popstar hongkongaise George Lam, et beaucoup considérèrent que sa discographie allait finir parmi les classiques; mais en 2002 Yeh fit un retour remarqué sur le marché de la Cantopop, avec un nouveau disque ("Can You Hear") suivi par une tournée. Début 2003, elle avait déjà deux titres dans les hitparades hongkongais.

Elle a reçu 4 fois la récompense de meilleure chanteuse de Hong Kong.

Actuellement, Sally Yeh est propriétaire du Golden Gate Badminton Club à Menlo Park en Californie.

A Hong Kong assassin, Ah Jong, is on his last job for the Triad (a criminal organization), but accidentally damages the eyes of a young nightclub singer named Jennie with a muzzle flash in a shootout. After the attack, Ah Jong begins to watch Jennie perform at the nightclub and escorts her home when she is attacked by thugs. Jennie and Ah Jong begin to fall in love during his frequent visits at her apartment. Driven to help her secure the money for a sight-saving corneal transplant, he accepts one final hit. A police detective, Li Ying, spots Ah Jong completing the job but the assassin escapes. The Triad leader Hay Wong Hoi double crosses Ah Jong, and instead of paying him, sends a group of hitmen to kill him. During Ah Jong's escape from the Triad, a young child is injured by a stray bullet. After dispatching the attackers, Ah Jong rushes the child to the hospital while being followed by Li and his partner Sgt. Tsang. The film begins with a comedic narration done by the leading man whom, in a brief introduction calls himself Chow Ting Fat (Chow Yun Fat). He dreamed of becoming wealthy and successful, which also includes marrying beautiful ladies at once. The scene roles to the part where Chow inevitably shields himself from heavy rainfall due to the broken down of his car. There, he met two beautiful women named Joey (Joey Wong), a boutique owner and Sally (Sally Yeh), an air- hostess whom he later marries (with Joey in America and Sally in Paris) who doesn't know about Chow's two timing marriage. A gang is attempting to steal computers from an 18 wheeler. One of the gang members remotely hacks a set of traffic lights, turning them to red, while other members of the gang rig chains to the back of the truck. They turn the light green again, and as the truck pulls away, the chains tear the door open. When the trucker goes to the rear of his truck to investigate, he is knocked unconscious by a gang member, who then whistles for his cohorts to steal the load. Meanwhile, New York police officers Billy Wong (Jackie Chan) and Michael Alexander (Patrick James Clarke) are patrolling the neighborhood. On the radio, a dispatcher says that a truck was stripped by their premises, so the cops check it out. As the trucker comes to, he sees that his cargo has been stolen.
