Chandrasekhara Menon, better known by his stage name Sankaradi (Malayalam: ശങ്കരാടി; 1924–2001), was an Indian actor. He was a veteran Malayalam comedian and character artiste, who had over 700 Malayalam films to his credit. He was one of the first realistic actors in South Indian cinema. He dominated the Malayalam film scene in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s as comedian along with Adoor Bhasi and Bahadur. Later, he switched to character roles.
Sankaradi remained bachelor for a long time till he married Sharada in the late 1980s; the couple had no children. He was known throughout his film career by his house name (Tharavadu) "Sankaradi".

Biography
He is born to Sankaradi Memana Parameswara Pillai and Thoppil Parambil Janaki Amma on 1924 at Cherai, Kochi, India. He has four siblings, Balan Menon, Sarojini, Lakshmikuty and Indira.Sankaradi remained bachelor for a long time till he married Sharada in the late 1980s; the couple had no children. He was known throughout his film career by his house name (Tharavadu) "Sankaradi".

Omanakkuttan (Dileep) is twenty-two years old and too lazy to hold down a job, which angers his father (Thilakan). His life takes a turn when he goes for his friend Sudi's (Krishna Prasad) sister's marriage and he marries her (Malu); this angers his father, Govindan but he allows them to stay in his home. Malu becomes pregnant and both Omanakkuttan and Malu are thrown out of the house since Omanakkuttan doesn't agree to an abortion according to Thilakan's wishes. Omanakkuttan lives to save his child and wife.

Swapnabhoomi is a village where strange customs and rituals exist. When a water shortage occurs the leader (Nedumudi Venu) sends a person (Ashokan) to inform Premachandran (Dileep) of the situation and request him to come to Swapnabhoomi and dig a well. Because of his poverty, he accepts the advance and agrees.Then he discovers that other workers who had tried to dig a well there died because of earthquake after digging 45 metre of land. He tries to escape from the people of Swapnabhoomi, but fails and starts the work as a challenge. Later he falls in love with the stepdaughter of the physician Devayaani (Shalini Kumar) who treats him when he meets with an accident while digging the well. But the rule of Swapnabhoomi is that a girl of the village may only court a man who comes from Swapnabhoomi itself. One day a man discovers their love and informs the head. The head orders them to stop seeing each other. If Premachandran disobeys, they will kill him or if Devayaani disobeys, then they will send her to a mountain where man eaters live. The head tells Premachandran that, if the well fills with water, then he can marry Devayaani. Later Premachandran came to know that before the last day of work rain should be there. Because of the fear, the head orders the destruction of the well, but Premachandran jumps into the well. When Devayaani learns about this, she breaks the rule and comes to see him. The people take her to the place where they have to do rituals and send her to the mountain. But water fills the well of Swapnabhoomi. Premachandran informs everyone and takes her to his home.

Nandakumar (Saikumar), a business tycoon in Bangalore, faces huge financial loss when his manager Abey Mathew decides to broker a deal with an Australian group and another rival Indian firm. He calls up Jagannadhan (Mohanlal), alias Jagan, his close buddy and business partner asking him to intervene. Jagan lands up at the office of Abey and forces him to withdraw from brokering the deal with the Australian company, there by bringing massive profit to Nandan. In return, Nandan is profuse in his offer of compensation to Jagan, all of which he humbly disavows. Jagan finally demands Nandan a small favor. He wants Nandan to purchase an old palace at Kanimangalam, a village in Kerala, to which Nandan agrees. Jagan also expresses his desire that the palace should be bought in the name of Nandan, and Jagan should be there as a benami of him. Jagannadhan reaches down at Kanimangalam for the registration of the palace and the property surrounding it. Meanwhile, Kulappully Appan Thamburan (Narendra Prasad), a feudal landlord with vested interests, opposes the purchase of the land. Appan's sister was married to Dathan Thampuran of Kanimangalam palace, who deserted her one day. The extreme hatred towards Kanimangalam had made Appan to even stop the annual temple festival, which according to the villagers has resulted in the anger of Goddess Kali, the local deity. Now, with the arrival of Jagannathan, Appan is back again creating troubles. But Jagannathan successfully overcomes it and gets the palace registered. Presently the palace is occupied by Krishna Varma (Oduvil Unnikrishnan), an old musician, and Unnimaya (Manju Warrier), his foster daughter. Unnimaya is believed to be the daughter of Dathan Thampuran, but is disowned by the rest of his family members. Though, now in the hands of Jagan, he allows Varma and Unnimaya to stay in the palace. Though, initially, both Varma and Unnimaya felt uncomfortable in staying with Jagan, slowly, they develop an affection towards him.

Shekhara Menon (Thilakan) is retired income tax officer from Mumbai and has now settled in a remote village in Kerala. He owns some land and a house where he and his three daughters live together and leads a calm, silent and happy life. Menon owns a smaller house adjacent to his own which is given for rent, and his source of income other that agricultural income. Mr. Menon's Pension from service has been blocked due to some unclear issues. Hareendran (Mammootty) is a struggling small time contractor and comes in as a new tenant to the rented house. Hareendran is constantly put under unwanted troubles by his aide Balachandran (Sudheesh), who convinces Hareendran to help people in trouble. His experience with Balachandran has made Hareendran a selfish man and he presently is least concerned about other peoples problems around him.

The film is set in British India in the year 1915. The story is about a young doctor, Govardhan Menon (Mohanlal), who is wrongly accused of bombing a train carrying 55 people including British officials. He is put in a cellular jail at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Mohanachandra Poduval (Jayaram), is a lawyer, also working as a plumber, caterer, electrical worker, driver and chenda player at festival programs. He is engaged to Sujatha (Sukanya), a music and dance teacher, who is the daughter of Achu Marar (Oduvil Unnikrishnan). Rameshchandran (Dileep), his younger brother, is in medical school. Sudhi and Anu are siblings, studying in a boarding school in Ooty. Their parents are separated and they never saw their mother, whom they always long to see. Chandappan Gurukkal (Narendra Prasad) and Chathukutty Bhagavathar (Nedumudi Venu) are brothers who are popularly known as Alanchery Thamprakkal. Hailing from feudal family, both enjoy a strong reputation in the village. Both have five sons each, and they share a strong bonding. While Gurukal and sons are experts in Kalaripayattu and other martial arts, Bhagavathar and sons are famous musicians. Meera (Annie), a teenage girl arrives at the village along with Retd.Captain Mukundan Menon (Rajan P. Dev), her grandfather and starts residing at the house of Bhagavathar on rent. She claims to Bhagavathar that she is the daughter of Karthu, his old lover, who was forced to leave the village long back for being pregnant with his daughter. Meera also adds that she is now back to meet her father and would like him to accept as her daughter. After consulting with Gurukkal, he decides to accept her as his daughter. But at the same time another person arrives, claiming himself as Bhagavathar's son. But when beaten severely by Bhagavathar's sons, he spells out the truth that he is a drama actor and has arrived for money. In the meantime, Unni (Dileep), son of Gurukkal falls in love with Meera and both Gurukkal and Bhagavathar decides to get her married to him. While things are moving smoothly, Keshu Varma (Shivaji) arrives at village claiming that Meera is none other than his daughter Lekha Varma, who had escaped from a mental hospital along with Syriac John another patient. Thamprakkal are adamant that they won't let Varma to take Meera away. But Varma warns that he will be back in a week to take her away. On questioning, Meera accepts the truth that she is the daughter of Varma and had escaped from a mental hospital along with Syriac John. Keshu varma is her mother's secon husband, who wanted to kill her to snatch away all the properties. She was forcefully admitted in a mental hospital and was given sedatives. At hospital, she met the mother of Thamprakkal, another patient, who told her the stories of Alanchery and the life of Thamprakkal. After escaping from the hospital, she along with Syriac John had reached Thamprakkal and fabricated the story to save herself from Varma. Thamprakkal decides to protect her. On the next week, upon arriving at the village, Varma and his goons are defeated by Thamprakkal and his sons. Meera is married to Unni and everything ends happily.
