Scott McGinnis (born November 19, 1958) is an American actor and director. He has starred in both films and television. McGinnis is best known by Star Trek fans as Mr. Adventure in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, where his character worked with Cdr. Uhura in the Spacedock transporter room. His character stated that he wanted some action and later received it when Uhura forced him into the closet at gunpoint.
Scott's first feature film was in the film The Viking Queen (1967) in which he appeared uncredited. Other appearances include Wacko (1982), Joysticks (1983), Making the Grade (1984) (which also features "Wacko" co-star and comedian Andrew Dice Clay), Secret Admirer (1985), Sky Bandits (1986), Odd Jobs (1986) and You Can't Hurry Love (1988).
McGinnis appeared in several television movies and had a role on the TV series Operation Petticoat as Seaman Dixon from 1978-1979. His last television appearance was in the TV movie Shadow Hunter. He has also directed individual television episodes, including Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show, Angel and The Jersey. Feature film directorial credits include Last Gasp and Caroline at Midnight. Michael Ryan is a high school student who receives an anonymous love letter. Michael is obsessed with Deborah Ann Fimple, the class beauty, and his best friend, Roger, convinces him that the letter is from her. However, he is totally oblivious that his friend Toni Williams is in love with him. Michael writes Deborah Ann an anonymous love letter in return, and asks Toni to give it to her. Toni realizes the letter is poorly written and unromantic (since Michael had copied words from greeting cards), so she rewrites it. Elizabeth Fimple, Deborah Ann's mother, discovers the letter. Her jealous police officer husband, Lou Fimple, sees her reading it. He steals the letter, and believes that his wife is having an affair. He suspects his neighbor (and bridge partner) George Ryan. George also mistakenly reads the letter because Lou's wife is his night school teacher and it somehow ends up in his book. When George asks her about it he assumes she wants to have an affair with him despite the fact his wife and she are friends. Meanwhile, Lou shows the letter to George's wife, Connie, and proposes that they expose the adulterers. Receiving no response from Deborah Ann, Michael writes a second letter, which Toni again rewrites.

The Federation Starship Enterprise returns to Earth following a battle with the superhuman Khan Noonien Singh, who tried to destroy the Enterprise by detonating an experimental terraforming device known as Genesis. The casualties of the fight include Admiral James T. Kirk's Vulcan friend, Spock, whose casket was launched into space and eventually landed on the planet created by the Genesis Device. On arriving at Earth Spacedock, Doctor Leonard McCoy begins to act strangely and is detained. Starfleet Admiral Morrow visits the Enterprise and informs the crew the ship is to be decommissioned; the crew is ordered not to speak about Genesis due to political fallout over the device.
