Biography
Malgré des études dramatiques très sérieuses à l'American Academy for Dramatic Arts dans les années 1980, Shannon Whirry a d'abord joué dans des films érotiques au cours des années 1990. Salesman Nick Halsey (Will Ferrell) is fired from his job of 16 years following an unspecified incident in Denver related to his alcoholism. He sits in the parking garage after leaving the office, drinking from a flask. He then takes the Swiss Army Knife he was given as a farewell gift and stabs it into his supervisor's car tires, only to leave the knife (which has his name on it) and run away when he is unable to pull it back out from the tire. He immediately drives to a convenience store and buys a large amount of beer. When he returns home, he finds his wife is gone, the locks have been changed, and his belongings have been strewn all over his front lawn. His wife has left him a letter telling him that she is leaving him, also over the Denver incident, and to not contact her.

Jolene (Jessica Chastain) is a 15-year-old foster child recently orphaned. At 15, she marries Mickey, a "green", nerdy, 20-year-old, partially to break free of the foster care. The teen couple live with Mickey's Uncle Phil (Dermot Mulroney) and Aunt Kay (Theresa Russell). Jolene asks Mickey about his mother, but Mickey rebuffs her and starts crying. To make him feel better, she then takes off the nightgown and seduces him, but Mickey's inexperience leads to uncomfortable and joyless sex. The next morning, Mickey and Uncle Phil wish Jolene a "Happy Birthday" with Kay asking Jolene to clean the floor. Uncle Phil walks in as Jolene is cleaning the floors, is aroused and they have sex. Starting an affair, they have passionate sex, with Phil promising to build a house for "just the two of them", but asks Jolene to keep the affair clandestine. Eventually, Kay walks in on them having sex and violently throws Jolene out of the house, Mickey, Phil and Kay fight, then Mickey walks out and commits suicide by jumping off a bridge. Aunt Kay has Jolene placed in a juvenile mental institution, meeting Cindy, a psychiatric nurse. Jolene asks for paper and colored pencils to draw. Her request is denied, but she is allowed crayons. Uncle Phil, visibly gray-haired, haggard and old-looking, is later sentenced to 18 months in prison. Cindy, a lesbian, takes a liking to Jolene and this culminates in another clandestine relationship. Cindy breaks Jolene out of the mental hospital and hides her, but Jolene soon breaks free and boards a bus west out of South Carolina forever. Jolene resorts to hitchhiking further west, supporting herself by prostitution.

Stuart Davis (David Hedison), running against the Vice-President, plans a trip to the Balkans to negotiate the release of American servicemen being held hostage by terrorists. Before he leaves, he receives a disk documenting evidence that the Vice-President has been trying to revive the American economy by causing a war in the Balkans. He announces his plans at Washington Dulles International Airport to show it to both sides in the hopes of ending the situation. He boards Concorde flight 209 to Paris along with some Air Force Officers and news employees. Unexpected Secret Service agents turn up and board the Concorde. After takeoff, the secret service agents led by Barry Rogers (Michael Dorn) shoot an Air Force officer and his men hijack the Concorde in mid-flight. Rogers takes Stuart Davis and the others hostage and forces him to hand over the disk in order to prevent the war being averted. In the cockpit, Rogers announces to the Dulles International Airport air traffic controller that the agents are armed with a nuclear device and threaten to crash the Concorde into Paris.

Karen hitches a ride in Frank's car after hers breaks down. The violent Frank is travelling with his abused wife, on his way to sell stolen computer chips. Following a discussion, he suspects his wife is being unfaithful, leading to violence and a tragic series of events. Karen escapes, reaching a lab where a scientist has invented a time machine, and she returns by accident some minutes before the violent events. She tries to make things better, but instead makes things worse. Each time she goes back in time to interfere, she causes a worse outcome than before. Eventually Karen uses the machine to go back as far as it can take her and refuse Frank's offer of a ride in the first place. Without her interference, Frank is killed by his wife.
