Steven Neil Gilborn (July 15, 1936 – January 2, 2009) was an American actor and educator.
Gilborn was born in New Rochelle, New York. He attended Swarthmore College, where he was awarded a bachelor's degree in English and earned a Ph.D. in dramatic literature from Stanford University in 1969, where his dissertation provided a psychoanalytic perspective on the plays of the 19th-century French dramatist Émile Augier.
Before becoming an actor, Gilborn was a Professor of Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and faculty adviser to the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. He also taught at Stanford University, Columbia University and at the University of California, Berkeley. He was married to American landscape photographer Karen Halverson.
Gilborn guest-starred in a number of notable television series including Columbo (4 episodes), Perfect Strangers, Boy Meets World, Malcolm in the Middle, JAG, ER, The West Wing, L.A. Law, The Practice, NYPD Blue and The Wonder Years.
He had recurring role in the sitcom Ellen (as "Harold Morgan", Ellen's father). Another notable recurring role was his three episode stint as "Mr. Collins", Kevin Arnold's algebra teacher on The Wonder Years. Film credits include "Mr. Phillips" in The Brady Bunch Movie and the hotel owner in Joyride.
Gilborn died at age 72 on January 2, 2009, of cancer at his home in North Chatham, New York.

Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1951. Sid Silver (Steven Gilborn) has a problem: his social guidance films aren't working anymore. The teens of the '50s are going crazy buck wild and Sid can no longer reach them. Clay Crawford (Jamieson Stern) also has a problem. He's on the run from the law and trying to make it to California to find a man who may be his father. A grizzled bounty hunter named Lucky (Geoffrey Lewis) is hot on Clay's trail. Sid and Clay cross paths in the hot desert winds of New Mexico. Wayne Grey (Seann William Scott), a fireman trainee practicing in a shack in the desert near Glen Canyon, Arizona, sees a meteor strike his car and land in an underground cavern. College professor Ira Kane (David Duchovny) and his colleague, geology professor Harry Block (Orlando Jones), investigate, taking a sample of strange blue liquid that oozes from it. Ira discovers that it harbors extraterrestrial single-celled nitrogen-based organisms multiplying exponentially, condensing millions of years of evolution within a matter of hours. The next day, they take the science class to survey the meteor site and find it already surrounded by evolved oxygen-converting fungi and alien flatworms. In a small Kansas town, Betty (Renée Zellweger), a kind and considerate diner waitress, is a fan of the soap opera A Reason to Love. Two hundred years after the events of Alien 3, military scientists on the outer space vessel USM Auriga create a clone of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) using DNA from blood samples taken before her death. They extract the embryo of an Alien queen that had been growing inside her at the time of her death, raise it, and collect its eggs for further use. The Ripley clone is kept alive for further study. As a result of her DNA being mixed with the Alien's DNA during the cloning process, she develops enhanced strength and reflexes, has acidic blood and a psychic link with the Aliens.

Howard Stern boards a flight home following an appearance at the MTV Music Video Awards as his alter-ego, "Fartman". He finds himself seated next to Gloria (Carol Alt), who is visibly repulsed by him.
