Stewart Armstrong Copeland (born July 16, 1952) is an American musician, multi-instrumentalist and composer best known as the drummer for the band The Police and for his film music soundtracks. He has also written various pieces of music for ballet, opera and orchestra. Copeland was ranked by a Rolling Stone magazine reader poll in 2010 as the fifth greatest drummer of all time.

Biography

Son enfance
Stewart Copeland naît aux États-Unis dans la ville d'Alexandria, en Virginie. Il est le plus jeune d'une famille de 4 enfants. Très tôt dans sa vie, sa famille part vivre en Égypte, à Alexandrie. Sa mère, Lorraine Adie, est une archéologue spécialiste du paléolithique au Proche-Orient. Son père, Miles Axe Copeland Junior, agent de la CIA, est responsable du bureau de Beyrouth, au Liban. Stewart étudie donc au lycée américain de Beyrouth, commence l'étude de la batterie à douze ans, et à treize ans joue de la batterie pour des écoles de danse. Après un passage en Angleterre, où il étudie à Millfield (Somerset) de 1967 à 1969, il part en Californie, où il suit notamment les cours de l'université de Californie à Berkeley. Il retourne en Angleterre, travaillant en 1974 comme directeur de tournée du groupe de rock progressif Curved Air, dont il deviendra le batteur de 1975 à 1976.


Ses débuts

The Police
En 1977, Stewart Copeland avec le chanteur et bassiste Sting et le guitariste Henry Padovani (rapidement remplacé par Andy Summers), fondent le groupe The Police, qui deviendra un des groupes les plus connus des années 1980. Le groupe se sépara en 1986, à la suite de tensions entre les membres, principalement entre Sting et Stewart.

Une nouvelle tournée a eu lieu en 2007-2008.

Il enregistre en 1983 pour la bande originale de Rusty James (Rumble Fish) de Francis Ford Coppola le simple Don't Box Me In avec Stan Ridgway, qui connaitra un certain succès.


Klark Kent
En parallèle de sa carrière avec The Police, Copeland a aussi enregistré sous le pseudonyme de Klark Kent plusieurs singles distribués en Grande-Bretagne en 1978, dont le premier Don't Care est entré dans les charts britanniques. En 1980 sort un 25 cm enregistré au studio Surrey Sound Studio de Nigel Gray réunissant 8 singles, Copeland jouant tous les instruments en re-recording.


Gizmodrome
Gizmodrome est le"supergroupe", nouveau projet de Stewart Copeland, formé en Italie en 2017. Il se constitue de 4 membres : Stewart Copeland, Mark King (l'ancien bassiste de Level 42) Vittorio Cosma (joueur de clavier italien), et enfin Adrian Belew (ancien guitariste de King Crimson, the Talking Heads et tant d'autres). le premier album du groupe, "gizmodrome" est sorti le 15 septembre 2017, et a été enregistré à Milan entre le printemps 2016 et l'été 2017.

As most of those who follow the Rastafarian faith do, Snoop decided to go through a transformation into his new self; his new, Rastafarian self. Reincarnated documents Snoop Dogg’s transition into Snoop Lion, which involved him taking a trip to Jamaica to make a reggae album and discover more about the Rastafarian faith. The documentary starts out by exploring Snoop’s past; his time on Death Row Records, the loss of his friends Tupac and Nate Dogg, and the murder accusation. The focus then shifts to his spiritual journey and new style of music. While in Jamaica, Snoop collaborated with a few famous reggae artists, including Bunny Wailer and Diplo, to create the Reincarnated (album), which focuses on love and nonviolence. Wailer was Snoop’s guide throughout the trip, leading him through his journey into Rastafarianism. The film includes many intimate moments with Snoop, where he discusses his personal thoughts and reasons for becoming Rasta. The documentary also includes the heavy marijuana smoking in which Snoop participated, which is a common practice among Rastafarians, and a common stereotype of how they practice their faith as well.
