Ted Post (March 31, 1918 – August 20, 2013) was an American television and film director.

Biography

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Post started his career in 1938 working as an usher at Loew's Pitkin Theater. He abandoned plans to become an actor after training with Tamara Daykarhanova, and turned to directing summer theatre. Post taught Acting and Drama at New York's High School of Performing Arts in 1950. He persuaded his friend, Sidney Lumet, to do likewise. Success in the theater led to work in television from the early 1950s. Post directed episodes of many series including Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, Wagon Train, Rawhide, The Twilight Zone, Columbo and 178 episodes of Peyton Place. He also directed TV films (including the original Cagney and Lacey film-of-the-week) and also feature films, including Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Go Tell the Spartans and two Clint Eastwood films Hang 'Em High and Magnum Force. Post directed the 2001–2002 Festival of the Arts at Bel-Air's University of Judaism (now the American Jewish University).

Post died at the UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, California on August 20, 2013.

The film begins in Northern Iraq, in 1985, during the Iran-Iraq War. Colonel Doug Matthews (Dudikoff), a U.S. Marine hired to help train Iraqi troops to fight off the Iranians, arrives somewhere in the northern part of Iraq only to discover that Iraqi troops are killing people in the nearby village. Doug disagrees with this and attacks Dallai, the leader of the Iraqi troops, but loses. Five years later, in August, at Baghdad Airport, the news reports that Iraq has invaded Kuwait and that all foreign nationals are to be evacuated. However, Ben Matthews (Tommy Hinkley), Doug's diabetic brother, who is a teacher, is taken away from his wife and child by Iraqi guards for interrogation and is held hostage to lure Doug in to a trap.

Back in 1973, one United States Senator Conrad Morgan (James Franciscus), the chief delegate diplomat in negotiating the terms of the end of Vietnam War, made a deal in Paris, France with Kuong Yen, the North Vietnamese negotiator. The deal called for Yen to release certain key CIA POWs in exchange for Morgan setting up a death-trap for an elite group of CIA assassins, known as the Black Tigers. The treaty signed, the Black Tigers were sent into the jungles of 'Nam to their unknowing demise, under the guise that they were on mission to liberate American POWs. However, the truly important thing to understand is that the negotiators failed to realize one thing: the commando's team leader was one Major John T. Booker (Chuck Norris). So, needless to say and despite all odds, Booker survives. As do the four men wise enough to have remained in his general vicinity.

Residing in the Los Angeles County city of Pasadena, four middle class ladies in their late sixties (Helen Hayes, Myrna Loy, Mildred Natwick and Sylvia Sidney) habitually meet for lunch and exchange small talk with their waitress (Dodo Denney). During the meal they discuss an "amusing" project to create a fictitious profile of a young woman and submit it to a computer dating service. Several days later, they start receiving letters from potential suitors and derive additional amusement from reading them out loud. Meanwhile, after dark, in a car parked in front of her home on a quiet residential street, a young woman (Diane Shalet) becomes alarmed by the aggressive behavior of her date (Vince Edwards) whose attempts to force himself upon her cause her to scramble out of his car and, when he comes out and attempts to manhandle and restrain her, she tearfully runs into the house, as her mother (Margaret Wheeler) calls out through the window, "Ruthie". The man gets back in his car and drives away while his audible thoughts reveal that he has difficulty relating to women and the resulting resentment and rage he feels towards them. He tries to recall the name of another prospect for a relationship and settles on the fictitious "Rebecca" submitted to the "Scientific Associates" computer dating agency by the aged ladies.
