A prologue replays the final scenes from Dracula, in which Dr. Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) destroys Dracula (Christopher Lee) by driving him into the sunlight. Its plot involves a group of vampires and satanic worshippers, led by Count Sinistre, who search out fresh victims. The film begins in a small town in Brittany, primarily inhabited by gypsies, where Baxter is on holiday with a group of friends. Count Sinistre returns to terrorise the townspeople on All Soul's Night, and murders three of Baxter's friends. Baxter, initially sceptical of the supernatural nature of the town, becomes suspicious and returns to England with a talisman belonging to Sinistre which he had taken from the scene of one of his murders, leading Sinistre to pursue Baxter in an attempt to recover the talisman and murder acquaintances along the way.

Indes, 1850. Le Fort de Kandahar est la constante cible d'attaques de rebelles en révolte contre L'Empire britannique. Sous le commandement d'Ali Khan, ces hommes tuent des soldats et pillent les villages avoisinants ainsi que tous ceux qui sont loyaux à la couronne. Le Lieutenant Case qui fait partie de la garnison est aussi un natif mais il est pris en grippe par les autres officiers qui sont jaloux de son succès sur le terrain. Lors d'une mission d'infiltration des rebelles, Case est malheureusement découvert par les espions rebelles et sa tête est mise à prix. Le Capitaine Connelly parti en mission avec le lieutenant est aussi capturé. De retour au Fort, Case est accusé de trahison pour avoir laissé son compatriote se faire capturer par l'ennemi.
