Un couple de pies à la recherche d'un endroit trouve finalement un nid juste en face de la fenêtre de la maison d'un fermier qui se repose en compagnie de son chien. Mais les deux oiseaux font un vacarme de tous les diables. Le fermier envoie son chien y mettre bon ordre mais les deux volatiles vont lui donner du fil à retordre. Le fermier décide de prendre son fusil et de faire sortir les oiseaux de sa propriété. Il ne réussit qu'à agacer une colonie de pies voisines qui aident les deux oiseaux de mauvais augure à prendre possession de la maison. Le fermier et son chien sont finalement chassés de leur domicile.

"Doll Face" Carroll is an entertainer looking to expand her reportoire. After a failed audition, where she is recognized as a burlesque performer from the Gayety Theatre, her manager and fiancé Mike Hannegan suggest she writes an autobiography to project a more literate image and he hires Frederick Manly Gerard as a ghostwriter. Doll Face agrees on the condition she is allowed to dedicate the book to Mike with "For the love of Mike".

Gertie LaRue (Francine Everett) is a nightclub entertainer from the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. She arrives on the Caribbean island of "Rinidad" to perform as the headliner in a revue at the Paradise Hotel. Gertie has earned the nickname "Dirty Gertie" for the casual nature in which she entices and then humiliates men. On the island she attracts the attention of two US military officers—a soldier and a sailor—whom she nicknames "Tight Pants" and "High Pockets," respectively. The men enjoy sharing Gertie’s affections. However, Diamond Joe, the owner of the hotel, finds himself falling for Gertie and begins to shower her with gifts. Gertie also attracts the attention of two missionaries, Mr. Christian and Ezra Crumm, who keep watch on Gertie’s activities. However, a former boyfriend from Harlem tracks Gertie to the island. Unable to possess her, the ex-boyfriend kills her while insisting that he loves her.
