During a major snow storm, Transcon Airways Flight 602, Boeing 727 airliner piloted by Captain Pete Douglas (David Janssen), First Officer Stan Burkhart (Christopher George) and Second Officer Mike Fuller (Don Meredith) on a flight from Los Angeles to New York, makes a scheduled stop in Salt Lake City. The beginning of the film contains some animations depicting Ibragim's acquisition from his native land and eventually we find him in the courts of Paris. He gets himself in trouble when a French countess, whom he had romances with, bears a black child. Ibragim is challenged to a duel which is played out humorously in a sped up timeframe. He leaves Paris shortly thereafter to return to his home in St. Petersburg where his godfather, and czar of Russia Peter the Great enthusiastically awaits his return. Upon arriving Ibragim expresses he is done with love, as his lover denounces him as a savage and his son is never fated to know his father. In an attempt to help Ibragim, as well as tie him into the nobility of Russia, Peter announces Ibragim and Natasha Rtishcheva are to be wed, to the despair of the family and the her current suitor. Ibragim however, refuses the marriage on the grounds that he believes Natasha is in love with another. This angers the czar who in turn begins to alienate both Ibragim and Natasha's family from his favor. The conundrum plays out in humorous and dramatic ways and eventually resolves in a pleasant and light-hearted manner.

The film is set in Paterson, New Jersey in the early 1960s. Catherine Spages (Linda Miller) is visiting Father Tom (Rudolph Willrich) with her two daughters, who both attend St. Michael's Parish Girls' School: 9-year-old Karen (Brooke Shields) and 12-year-old Alice (Paula Sheppard). Karen is preparing for her First Communion and Father Tom gives her his mother's crucifix as a gift. Later, Alice steals Karen's porcelain doll and lures her into an abandoned building with it. She jumps out and scares Karen with the grinning mask and locks her in a room. When she lets her out she tells her that if anyone finds out, she'll never see the doll again.

Howard Beale, the longtime anchor of the Union Broadcasting System's UBS Evening News, learns from the news division president, Max Schumacher, that he has just two more weeks on the air because of declining ratings. The two old friends get roaring drunk and lament the state of their industry. The following night, Beale announces on live television that he will commit suicide on next Tuesday's broadcast. UBS fires him after this incident, but Schumacher intervenes so that Beale can have a dignified farewell. Beale promises he will apologize for his outburst, but once on the air, he launches back into a rant claiming that life is "bullshit". Beale's outburst causes the newscast's ratings to spike, and much to Schumacher's dismay, the upper echelons of UBS decide to exploit Beale's antics rather than pull him off the air.

Charles Duchemin (Louis de Funès) is the editor of an internationally known restaurant guide. After being appointed to the Académie française, Duchemin decides to retire as a restaurant critic and trains his son Gérard (Coluche) to continue the family business. However, Gérard Duchemin is more interested in his true passion—the circus—than high cuisine. L'histoire se déroule à Kiev en hiver 1918-1919. Le régime de hetmanat Skoropadsky est remplacé par le directoire d'Ukraine. Le colonel Aleksei Tourbine et son frère junker Nikolaï restent fidèles au mouvement des blancs et sont prêts à le défendre au péril de leur vie. Le mari de leur sœur Elena, Vladimir Talberg, abandonne lâchement la maison et la famille pour partir avec les allemands qui quittent la ville. Trois amis des Tourbine, les officiers Leonid Chervinski, Viktor Mychlaïevski et Alexandre Stoudzinski leur rendent visite. En leur compagnie la famille s'apprête à fêter le Nouvel an. À ce moment arrive un jeune homme Lariossik, un cousin qui vient chercher refuge chez eux. Ensuite, Aleksei et Nikolaï Tourbine rejoignent leur unité. After François Leclercq seduces the young and rich Gilberte Beaumont-Liégard, she introduces him to her family. Through the budding relationship with her in-laws, Leclercq is able to assimilate into the local upper class of his hometown, Cornai. A friend of Gilberte's father, Raphaël Di Massa hires him as manager of his new nightclub, "Number One". The oblivious parvenu Leclercq eventually discovers that "Number One" is actually a cover-up for Raphaël Di Massa's illegal drug trade. Following a dispute between Di Massa and Leclercq, the gun of the latter is stolen and used in the murder of a local football star. An orchestrated miscarriage of justice puts Leclercq in prison, despite his innocence. Seven years later, he returns to Cornai and discovers that it wasn't Di Massa, but Gilberte's father Jean-Baptiste Beaumont-Liégard who ran the drug operation during Leclercq's employment. In an act of retaliation, Leclercq turns Beaumont-Liégard's accomplices against him. As Jean-Baptiste Beaumont-Liégard is executed, Leclercq leaves the city satisfied with his revenge.
