The film opens by cutting back and forth between scenes of a naval ship carrying Admiral Croft (John Woodvine), and a buggy carrying Mr. Shepherd (David Collings) and his daughter Mrs. Clay (Felicity Dean) to Kellynch Hall. Shepherd and Clay are accosted by creditors due to the debts owed by the residence's owner, Sir Walter Elliot (Corin Redgrave), while Croft discusses the end of the Napoleonic Wars with fellow men of the navy. Sir Walter, a vain foppish baronet, is faced with financial ruin unless he retrenches. Though Sir Walter initially opposes the idea, he eventually agrees to temporarily move to Bath while the hall is let; the idea came from Shepherd, family friend Lady Russell (Susan Fleetwood), and Sir Walter's second eldest daughter, the intelligent Anne (Amanda Root).

Billy (Marina Zudina), an FX make up artist who does not have the physical ability to speak, is in Moscow working on a low budget slasher film directed by her sister's boyfriend Andy (Evan Richards). On one particular night Billy returns to the set to fetch a piece of equipment for the next day's shoot when she is accidentally locked in the studio. Being unable to speak but having the ability to communicate with her sister Karen (Fay Ripley), Billy makes several telephone calls but is interrupted when she discovers a small film crew working after hours to shoot a cheap porno film. Watching unseen Billy is amused until the performed sex becomes sadistic. When a masked actor pulls out a knife and stabs the actress (Olga Tolstetskaya), Billy reacts and is discovered. She flees pursued by the homicidal film crew.

On October 31, 1989, Michael Myers and his niece Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris) have been abducted by a mysterious stranger in black at the Haddonfield Police Station. Six years later, teenager Jamie (J. C. Brandy) has been impregnated and her baby is born on Halloween Eve. The baby is taken away by the "Man in Black" who appears to be the leader of a Druid-like cult. Later, a midwife (Susan Swift) helps Jamie escape with her baby and is soon killed by Michael (George P. Wilbur). Jamie and her baby flee in a stolen pickup. Stopping briefly at a deserted bus station, Jamie makes a call to a Haddonfield radio station to warn them that Michael is about to return home, only to be ignored by the radio D.J. Barry Simms (Leo Geter) who is doing a broadcast on the Haddonfield murders.

Teacher Anna Montgomery (Olivia d'Abo), who is on an exchange program from Surrey, England, is placed into a school in the tiny (and fictional) town of Elma, Texas. She struggles to connect with the children at first, as they believe they are underachievers after receiving the lowest test scores in the state for four years running. She is also shocked to learn that the children think very little of everything. The film deals with five friends who share a house (called "El Rancho") while attending art school at UC Santa Cruz. Now they are graduating, and they are struggling to cope going their separate ways. Party animal Jack (Ben Affleck) is still reeling over breaking up with his girlfriend, while also contending with his career choice to be an artist to the chagrin of his upper class parents. Mickey (Vinnie DeRamus) doesn't know how to tell his longtime friend Chelsea (Alyssa Milano) that he's in love with her while Slosh (Vien Hong) gave up his brilliant potential by dropping out and becoming a ne'er-do-well drunk with dead end jobs. The five must decide whether to continue living their glory years together for another year or carry on and follow their futures as adults.

Delia est auteure de bande dessinée. Elle vit depuis de nombreuses années à Bologne et demeure toujours, à quarante ans passés, célibataire . À l'inverse, Delia n'accorde aucune confiance à la thèse officielle, persuadée que l'exubérance et la vitalité de sa génitrice ne s'ajustent nullement à un acte aussi brutalement désespéré et catégorique. Elle mène donc sa propre enquête. Les événements et la reconstruction fragmentaire des derniers jours de sa mère, notamment les communications téléphoniques avec un personnage énigmatique, mettent brusquement en lumière des faits antérieurs que Delia avait enfouis dans sa mémoire. Ainsi, du souvenir d'une altercation violente entre ses parents au sujet d'une relation ambiguë. À la suite de quoi, elle s'était éloignée de sa mère... Au fond, Delia ne se sent, dans l'immédiat, guère préparée à démêler un passé trop douloureux. Elle prend, en dernier recours, la décision de rejoindre Bologne, laissant dans l'ombre une conclusion aussi tragique que mystérieuse.
