Synopsis
Des millions de personnes disséminées de par le monde et déçues de la manière dont celui-ci évolue décident de s'unir. Toutes guidées par le même désir d'améliorer les choses, de ne plus subir l'actualité sans pouvoir réagir. Par le biais d'Internet, elles créent le premier Pays virtuel : 8th Wonderland. Chaque semaine, tous ses habitants votent par référendum une motion différente... Mais que se passerait-il si les motions de 8th Wonderland devenaient petit à petit plus réactionnaires ? Si sa manière d'agir se rapprochait lentement mais sûrement d'un comportement terroriste ? De nombreuses personnes et Nations pourraient chercher à faire disparaître ce pays qui n'est pas comme les autres. A group of four misfits, Argyris, Andreas, Marina, and Sofia, live together in a house. Argyris just got out of jail. All four have become disillusioned with life and have lost any reason to live or die. They try all criminal experiences with each member of the group choosing a different activity to experiment in: frequenting expansive restaurants and leaving without paying, shoplifting, starring in pornographic films, and creating an anti-state organization. The authorities put them under surveillance, waiting for the slightest false step from any of them before acting violently. The first such misstep occurs when Sofia kills the police chief who monitors their home.

Barcelone, 1921. Peu de temps avant le régime autoritaire qui s'emparera du pays, l'Espagne est en crise et de nombreuses villes sont en proie au chaos à cause des affrontements entre hommes armés, voyous, anarchistes et policiers corrompus. Alors qu'un train militaire de marchandises transportant des armes entre en gare de Barcelone, il est aussitôt attaqué et pillé par des hommes armés. Venu de Madrid, le flic Aníbal Uriarte, ancien militaire, arrive en ville pour collaborer avec la police locale et arrêter les auteurs du vol. Alors que la violence s'étend à tout le pays, Uriarte ne trouve pas beaucoup de soutien parmi ses pairs qui le choquent par leurs méthodes illégales et expéditives pour interroger les anarchistes accusés de l'attaque du train. Dans un pays déchiré où la mafia locale et les syndicats se mobilisent, représentés par un certain Salvador Ortiz et sa fille féministe Sara, Uriarte tente à tout prix retrouver les armes dérobées pour empêcher un possible coup d'état et un massacre général.

Jane, an operative for the private intelligence firm Hiller Brood, is assigned by her boss Sharon to infiltrate The East, an underground activist, anarchist and ecologist organization that has launched several attacks against corporations in an attempt to expose their corruption. Calling herself Sarah, she joins local drifters in hitching rides on trains, and when one drifter, Luca, helps her escape from the police, she identifies the symbol of The East hanging from Luca's car mirror. Sarah self-inflicts an arm injury that she tells Luca was caused in the escape so he can get medical attention for her. He takes her to an abandoned house in the woods where members of The East live and one of the members, Doc, treats her cut.

Harry Palmer (Michael Caine), who has left MI5 to work as a private investigator, is told by a mechanical voice on the phone to take a package to Helsinki. The package contains six virus-laden eggs that have been stolen from the British government's research facility at Porton Down.
