Synopsis
Un soir, deux contrôleurs font irruption dans un magasin d'alimentation. Ils se livrent à une inspection sévère du stock mais s'intéressent aussi au personnel. Les employés se disputent entre eux jusqu'à l'arrivée de l'épouse du directeur qui admoneste les deux intrus. On finit par se mettre d'accord : les denrées indûment accumulées seront détruites au calorifère. Mais, au petit matin, la police se présente devant le magasin et ouvre le rideau de fer... Pour tout le monde, il ne s'est rien passé.Actors

The two protagonists, Max and Albert, played by Jerzy Stuhr and Olgierd Łukaszewicz, respectively, submit themselves in 1991 to the first human hibernation experiment. Instead of being awakened a few years later as planned, they wake up in the year 2044, in a post-nuclear world. By then, humans have retreated to underground living facilities, and, as a result of subjection to a specific kind of radiation, all males have died out. Women reproduce through parthenogenesis, living in an oppressive feminist society, where the apparatchiks teach that women suffered under males until males were removed from the world.

A young French historian, Napoleon Beranger, comes to Warsaw on a foreign scholarship. While driving his car along a detour he runs into an old manor in Walewice village. On the wall of the manor he finds portraits of Napoleon Bonaparte and his great love Maria Walewska, a Polish aristocrat who used her charms to convince the emperor to stand up for her country. Beranger meets there by accident a beautiful woman, a student of art history by the same name of Maria Walewska (Marysia). The pair of modern heroes both notice the striking resemblance of each other to the historical figures, and as if by magic, move back into the Napoleonic period, where they play the roles of Napoleon and his Polish consort. They fall in love.

During a battle in the Aragonese town of Saragossa (Zaragoza) during the Napoleonic Wars, an officer retreats to the second floor of an inn. He finds a large book with drawings of two men hanging on a gallows and two women in a bed. An enemy officer tries to arrest him but ends up translating the book for him; the second officer recognizes its author as his own grandfather, who was a captain in the Walloon Guard.

Trois jours de la vie d'une actrice de théâtre hongroise du XIX siècle. The film features József Pelikán as a single father who previously participated in the WW2 communist movement of Hungary, but is now working at a dike. He meets an old friend from the underground communist movement, Zoltán Dániel, now a government official who fishes at the Danube, near the dike. Dániel falls in the river, and Pelikán rescues him and invites him to his home. The ÁVH receive a report stating Pelikán committed an illegal act of slaughtering a pig for food. Dániel tries to save him, but accidentally opens a hidden door to the basement, where all the pork had been hidden. Pelikán is taken to prison and later released, due to the "will of the higher command". Comrade Virág gives various assignments to Pelikán such as being the CEO of a swimming pool, an amusement park, and an orange-research facility; all to cause Pelikán to be the witness in a show trial against Zoltán Dániel. Before the trial they present Pelikán with testimony he must memorize, but Pelikán decides to tell the truth. He is thrown back in prison as a reprisal. While awaiting hanging, the political climate changes and he is released and meets Comrade Virág who has lost all his former power and influence.
