Le film est tiré d'une histoire vraie. Durant le soulèvement de Gwangju de 1980, le journaliste allemand Jürgen Hinzpeter, intéressé par l'événement, décide de se rendre sur place pour filmer les combats urbains. Il utilise pour cela un taxi et la complicité du chauffeur Kim Sa-bok. Son nom est connu grâce au journaliste allemand qui l’a remercié lors d’une cérémonie en 2003. La production du film aurait essayé de retrouver la trace de Kim Sa-bok, en vain.
Il connait un grand succès en Corée du Sud en devenant le deuxième plus grand succès de l'année avec plus de 12 millions d'entrées au box-office sud-coréen de 2017, pour un budget de 15 milliards de won (environ 11 millions d’euros).
Synopsis
En 1980, un journaliste allemand travaille au Japon pour une chaîne de télévision allemande. Au mois de mai de la même année a lieu, en Corée du Sud, le soulèvement de Gwangju. Ce mouvement, principalement étudiant et syndical, s’oppose à la dictature de Chun Doo-hwan, mise en place après l’assassinat de Park Chung-hee. Il décide alors de se rendre dans le pays. Il prend un taxi de Séoul à Gwangju et filme tout ce qu’il voit. Son retour jusqu'à Séoul sera éminemment compliqué puisqu'il leur faut échapper à la surveillance aérienne. De retour au Japon, il envoie son film en Allemagne.Actors

In 2014, an attempt to counteract global warming through climate engineering results in an ice age that extinguishes all life except the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a massive train powered by a perpetual motion engine that travels a globe-spanning track, created by the transportation magnate Wilford. By 2031, elites inhabit the extravagant front cars and the "scum" inhabit the tail in squalid and brutal conditions. Septembre 1942, au large de Cape Town, en Afrique du Sud. Le "RMS Laconia", qui vient de quitter le port, fait route vers l’Angleterre avec 2 000 passagers à son bord ainsi que 1 800 prisonniers italiens. Les fumées du navire sont bientôt repérées par un U-Boot. Sa taille laissant supposer qu’il peut transporter des troupes, la décision est prise de le torpiller. Cela fait, le sous-marin ne quitte pas immédiatement les lieux. Découvrant le sort des prisonniers italiens, mais aussi de civils, le capitaine, se référant à un code d’honneur maritime, ordonne l’organisation du sauvetage, arbore une croix rouge dans l’attente d’un bâtiment français envoyé par Vichy. Mille personnes seront sauvées. Peu après, ce sous-marin sera coulé par les forces alliées tandis que l’amiral allemand Dönitz signera le "Laconia order" interdisant à l’armée allemande de procéder au moindre sauvetage.

Macy stars as the COB (chief of the boat) on a fictitious US Navy submarine, the USS Swordfish (although there were two actual submarines named USS Swordfish that served the US Navy during and after World War II, neither are represented by the sub in this film). While on patrol in the North Atlantic, the ship is ambushed by two German U-boats. Swordfish destroys one of them, but is critically damaged by a torpedo fired from the second one, the fictitious U-boat U-429 (again, there was a real WWII German submarine U-429, not actually represented in the film). Eight members of the American crew escape and are held prisoner on board U-429. However, the American executive officer had previously contracted meningitis and given it to his captain, who brought it aboard the U-429. Within days, over half the German crew, as well as some of the Americans, contract the disease and die. Although the Germans and Americans begin to work together to keep the boat operational, not all the U-boat crew is willing to go along with this arrangement. Also, another U-boat and an American destroyer (the fictional USS Logan, not related to the actual attack transport of that name) threaten to overwhelm their tentative truce.

Gang-pae, played by So Ji-sub, is a local organized crime leader who still wishes he could be in movies. Soo-ta, played by Kang Ji-hwan, is a haughty actor who is easy to provoke. Within his latest film, where he plays a gangster, he gets into the role too much and sends one of the stuntmen to the hospital. The two men meet by chance at a room salon and Soo-ta enlists Gang-pae to join the production. But this real life gangster will only join the production if the fights are real. On September 11, 2001, Port Authority Police officers John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno are patrolling the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan when they see a plane fly dangerously low overhead. As all of the police officers return to the station, they see on TV that the North Tower of the World Trade Center has been hit by the plane. Sergeant McLoughlin assigns many of the officers to assist in a precautionary evacuation attempt of the North Tower and they board a Metropolitan Transit Authority bus. On the bus, they hear reports that the South Tower is also hit by another plane. When they arrive at the World Trade Center, they realize the extent of the disaster, and see one of the victims jump out of the towers to certain death. The men proceed to get safety equipment from Building 5 and enter the concourse between the towers.
