Synopsis
Lynn was married to Paul, but they split up on bad terms, and Lynn took custody of their daughter Alice while Paul got their son Dylan. Years later, now that Dylan is getting married, Lynn is attending the wedding at her parents' estate, with her younger sons Elliot and Ben in town. Elliott is a cynical substance abuser and Ben prefers to look at life through a camera than confront the world head on. Meanwhile, Alice deals with her anxieties through cutting; Dylan has only infrequent contact with Lynn; Lynn is fearful of Paul and his second wife Patty; Lynn's mother, Doris, blames her daughter for her family's many troubles; and her father, Joe, is in poor health and hardly cares about what's happening around him. To the surprise of no one, all this has left Lynn an emotional wreck, and she's not sure just how she's going to get through the day.Actors

Living on City Island, in the Bronx, Vince Rizzo (Andy Garcia), a prison guard, is the father of a dysfunctional family whose members all have secrets. Vince discovers that his secret illegitimate son is now the 24-year-old prison inmate Tony Nardella (Steven Strait) who is being held in the same prison where he works. Recently widowed Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon), still grieving his loss and dealing with the expulsion of his 14-year-old son, Dylan (Colin Ford), from school, decides to make a fresh start by buying a new house. In West Dallas, Texas, 22-year-old drug dealer Chris Smith (Hirsch), desperate to pay his debt to loan sharks, decides to murder his mother, Adele, to collect the $50,000 of insurance money. Saul Naumann (Gere) is a somewhat controlling Jewish husband and father. A Religious Studies professor at UC Berkeley, Saul wrote his graduate thesis on the Kabbalah. In the late 1950s, the Dollanganger family – 14-year-old Chris, 12-year-old Cathy, 4-year-old twins Carrie and Cory and their parents Christopher and Corrine – live happily together in Pennsylvania.
