Synopsis
Suzanne, en 75 ans, a rarement eu l'occasion de quitter sa presqu'île. Depuis qu'elle est veuve, seules les parties de petits chevaux avec sa sœur Henriette, très autoritaire, égrènent le temps, avec le rituel du Loto hebdomadaire et l'entretien maniaque du jardin. Un matin, Suzanne découvre qu'elle a joué les 6 bons numéros du Loto et se retrouve à la tête d'une fortune colossale. Désemparée, elle se confie à son notaire, qui lui conseille de mener une enquête discrète auprès de chacun de ses enfants pour déterminer qui aurait besoin de profiter de sa générosité. Suzanne se rend d'abord à Paris, chez sa fille Constance, une bourgeoise dont le mariage prend l'eau de toutes parts. À Strasbourg, elle découvre que son fils Germain ne survit que grâce à la générosité de son amie Carlotta. De retour chez elle, Suzanne doit enfin affronter les reproches de son fils Henri et les maladresses de sa petite-fille Sylvie. Suzanne décide de mettre de l'ordre dans sa famille et se découvre au passage quelques alliés.Actors

A somewhat artificial looking young dandy goes to an ornate dance hall, where he finds a young woman to be his dance partner. When he faints from the exertion, a doctor is called. He discovers that the dandy is in fact an old man wearing a mask to hide his aged appearance. The doctor takes the old man home to his patient wife. She explains that her husband Ambroise used to attract the ladies who frequented the hairdresser salon where he worked, but in the space of two years, he lost his looks. He goes out in disguise in an attempt to recapture his youth.

Lors des funérailles de M. Dupont, plusieurs personnes suivent le convoi funèbre, chacun plongé dans ses souvenirs du défunt. Il y a sa femme Marie, ses enfants Paul et Denise, son associé Varesco et Janine Frejoul, sa maîtresse qu’il a passionnément aimée. Dès leur première rencontre, avant la guerre, Janine au visage d’ange s’est moquée de lui. Elle lui a joué la comédie de l’amour en profitant de ses largesses. Dupont, aveuglé par sa passion, la couvre de cadeaux, règle ses dettes, entretient sa propriété, rachète ses chevaux… Alors que Janine, tout en comblant Dupont de promesses, ne pense qu’à son mari, Maurice, évadé d’un Stalag, qu’elle cache pendant la guerre. Le machiavélisme de Janine ne s’arrêtera pas là. Elle sera l’investigatrice d’une sombre affaire de dénonciation menée pendant la guerre ainsi qu’à la libération mêlant Dupont contre Varesco. Manigances qui finiront par venir à bout du brave Dupont qui meurt d’une crise cardiaque. Janine, abandonnée par son mari écœuré de ses agissements, se retrouve seule derrière le cortège.

A young provincial, Octave Mouret, arrives in Paris during the Second Empire. Madame Josserand, a society woman who thinks of little other than marrying off her daughter Berthe, sets her sights on him. But Octave has already turned his attention to the married Madame Hédouin, who runs a large department store, "Au Bonheur des Dames", where he is hired as a salesman. During World War I, a seemingly respectable middle-aged man Henri Landru has devised an ingenious means of obtaining money to supplement his dwindling income. Martial (Daniel Auteuil) is discharged from a mental institution where he spent a few years due to a serious nervous breakdown. During his hospitalization, he ceases to speak with everyone, including his wife Régine (Thérèse Liotard), whom he had encouraged to find a new partner soon after entering the clinic. Upon his return, he finds his mother (Danielle Darrieux), a busy business woman who owns a supermarket chain. She's convinced that her son, who by now hardly talks to anyone after his experience, will be able to find himself again if tasked with some responbibilities. Soon enough, he's sent to Limoges on a business trip to check on one of their stores in the hope to reinvigorate its failing business. Once he arrives, Martial is faced with responsibilities he had never imagined, including dealing with the store's personnel. Due to his lack of people skills, this job is a difficult task. Meantime, as instructed by his mother, he checks on the accounting handled by the manager, Mr. Fonfrin (Jean-Pierre Marielle), and he soon realizes that the reason for the branch's close-to-failure status is that Fonfrin is padding the books. Due to his inability to take charge for anything in life, Martial fails to perform his duties and instead befriends the crooked manager, who invites the naive heir to join him and his wife (Dominique Lavanant) for dinner one night. He immediately falls in love with Francine (Sandrine Bonnaire), the maid, an eccentric young woman with whom he has a brief relationship. Martial unconditionally showers her with all kinds of gifts, as this is the first time in several years that he feels close to someone; it is a short episode that makes his dejected life momentarily look brighter. He lets his work fall behind for her but, unfortunately, the romance doesn't last long and, upon his return to Paris, he is deemed incompetent and re-admitted to the hospital.
