Caesar the Conqueror (Italian: Giulio Cesare, il conquistatore delle Gallie) is a 1962 Italian film directed by Tanio Boccia. The scenario is based on Julius Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Gallico.

Synopsis

Proconsul de Rome en Gaule, Jules César voudrait envahir la Bretagne après avoir pacifié la Gaule. Mais bientôt, le pays se soulève à nouveau et il décide de mener ses légions contre les hordes gauloises qui pillent et tuent tout sur leur passage. Contre l'avis du Sénat, César décide de prendre lui-même part à la bataille face à son ennemi Vercingétorix, ancien esclave affranchi par César lui-même et élu chef suprême de toutes les tribus gauloises. Le choc entre les deux chefs s'avère terrible...

In Hawaii, during World War II, U.S. Navy pilot Alec Brooke (Van Johnson) commands a flying boat, named the "High Barbaree". During a bombing mission against a Japanese submarine, his PBY Catalina is shot down with all but one of his crew killed, but still able to stay afloat, adrift far from Allied territory. While the crippled aircraft is slowly floating, the two survivors hear the voice of "Tokyo Rose" (Audrey Totter) invoking memories of their past. Alec shares a series of recollections with fellow survivor, Lt. Joe Moore (Cameron Mitchell). The film is based on the poem by Torquato Tasso, and is set in the time of the Crusades in Jerusalem. The commander Godfrey of Bouillon, Christian blessed by the pope, is attacking the Holy City for years, with no win. In fact, his work is to free the Holy Sepulchre of Christ from the hands of the Muslim infidels. The best soldier of Godfrey is Tancredi, who during a battle collides with a Muslim soldier.
