The film is inspired by stories of Stanley Ho, Henry Fok and Yip Hon. It was followed by the sequel Casino Tycoon 2, which was released the same year.
Synopsis
Se déroulant durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Casino Tycoon relate l'histoire de Benny, un jeune diplômé joué par Andy Lau, qui fuit à Hong-Kong durant l'invasion japonaise et se convertit dans le jeu à Macao. Une fois à Macao, il rencontre un homme d'affaires local qui a des liens avec le crime organisé, il se construit lentement son chemin dans les rangs de la pègre de Macao, qui mène finalement à des troubles.Actors

In 1993, Wai Kat-cheung (Andy Lau) is an underling of Prince (Mark Cheng). Since Cheung was young, his father was a triad member so Cheung also joined the triad. One time when Prince owed Crazy Ball (Ben Ng) HK$3 million debt, Crazy Ball abducted Prince and Cheung rescues him by slicing Crazy Ball's left eye. Although he later became highly regarded by Prince and his status rose, he also had to pay a heavy price. The story begins in the 1910s in early Republican China. Cheng Daqi, a young fruit vendor from Chuansha, is arrested and imprisoned after being framed for murder. He is saved by Mao Zai, an agent working for the Nationalist Government's secret police, after which he travels to Shanghai in search of a new life. In Shanghai, he meets Hong Shouting, a mob boss, and becomes one of Hong's apprentices. He also falls in love with Bao, a singer whom he eventually marries, even though his true love is actually Ye Zhiqiu, an opera actress from his hometown. At one point, Hong unknowingly offends the son of a general and is captured by the general's men. Cheng negotiates with the general and succeeds in striking up in a deal with him to release Hong and invest in their banking business. Hong feels so grateful to Cheng that he becomes sworn brothers with him later.

Crazy Lik and his friend Pong are two undercover cops who are sent to infiltrate triad leader Coffin Sing. Later as Sing is killed, the gang is split into two. Lik follows Hung Tai's side and Pong goes to the other. Lik becomes down as he is separated from his best friend and feeling responsible for Sing's death. This leads to a time where Lik gets drunk at his girlfriend Moon's mother's birthday party and making a fool of himself and Moon feels disgusted and leaves him. One time in a bar, Lik meets triad member Milky Fai, who helps Lik out to get good with Hung Tai and his sister Po. Milky Fai is actually a former undercover cop who has his own problems. Later on, Lik must decide whether or not to betray his triad brothers that he have grown very close to complete the case for his superior whom he really hates and is hitting on his girlfriend.

In the year 2043, an evil crime lord (The General/M. Bison) is trying to take over the world. He was arrested and was sentenced to jail by the Judge.
