Synopsis
Peu de temps avant la mort de sa femme, riche héritière d’un empire industriel, Antonio (Fernando Rey), comprenant qu’il risque d'être évincé par les actionnaires, la convainc de faire promettre à sa jeune fille, comme dernières volontés avant de mourir, de formuler un vœu de chasteté de façon à n’épouser personne jusqu’à la mort de son père.Actors

Sandro, un adolescent de 16 ans, passe les vacances avec ses parents dans la station balnéaire de Versilia. Ignazio La Brocca, la soixantaine, vit dans une villa luxueuse avec Angela, son ancienne bonne à tout faire, devenue sa femme, Le jeune architecte Lance Bruni vient leur rendre visite accompagné de son fils Jimmy âgé de quinze ans. Il a été alerté par la Direction des Beaux-Arts qu’au cours des travaux de construction du métro, tout près d’ici, on aurait trouvé la fosse où Ruggero d'Altavilla, premier comte de Sicile (1062) aurait muré vivante la princesse Aisha, coupable de n’avoir pas cédé à ses avances. Le jeune Jimmy est immédiatement troublé par Angela qui dort désormais séparée de son mari. Celle-ci trouve une rose déposée dans sa poche puis un mot doux tout à fait explicite. Angela soupçonne d’abord Lance l'architecte, puis devine que l'auteur des lettres est le jeune garçon qui lui fait comprendre qu’il est capable de blesser et même tuer son mari pour changer sa vie. Les fouilles se poursuivent, ainsi que les malentendus, jusqu'à ce qu’Ignazio, convaincu par Jimmy de se rendre de nuit dans la fosse pour y découvrir un trésor est coincé par un éboulement provoqué par le garçon diabolique. Pendant ce temps, Angela a cédé à l'architecte. Ignazio est finalement sorti de ce mauvais pas à la suite des remords de Jimmy. Mais l'arrivée des invités, tous ces événements qui s’enchaînent, l’accident d'Ignazio causés par le jeune secrétaire-amant ont secoué la routine ennuyeuse du couple d'âge mûr, qui, en se séparant de ses hôtes, semble avoir retrouvé une nouvelle harmonie.

Following the death of his wife, a father of three sons (aged 18, 14 and 6) hires an attractive young housekeeper named Angela (Laura Antonelli), and soon becomes engaged to her. His sons are also infatuated with Angela, and each of them uses their particular way to approach and capture the apparently innocent and naive young woman, and to see more of her body. Salvatore Cannavone (Domenico Modugno) is a Sicilian cobbler-cum-shoe salesman who has worked for thirty years in New York City. He returns to his hometown where, although of modest means in America, he is considered a wealthy man and becomes the centre of attraction. He begins to live with his brother Raffaele (Pippo Franco), his wife Rosa (Luciana Paluzzi), and his stepdaughter Mariuccia (Eleonora Giorgi) and, starting from their first meet, he and Mariuccia get busy with games of seduction. Raffaelle notices Salvatore's interest in Mariuccia and attempts to make use of it to have him stay at their house and to exploit his wealth. On the other hand, Salvatore also has an eye on voluptuous Rosa and both Mariuccia and Rosa begin to see Salvatore's passion as a means to secure the economic benefits he provides, which eventually leads to a peculiar ménage à trois. Things get even more complicated when Mariuccia is betrothed to another man.

Ernesto (Martin Halm), a 17-year-old Jew of the 1911 Italy, abandons his family, going to live with his uncles of Trieste.
