The film was selected as the opening film at the 17th Busan International Film Festival and released in Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China on 8 November 2012.
The film's title, Cold War (寒戰), is derived from the code name used in the police operation where the plot of the film evolves.
The film won nine awards including Best Actor, Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay at the 32nd Hong Kong Film Award.
Synopsis
The police have long been untouch-able in Hong Kong, Asia's safest city. One midnight, though, a police van carrying advanced equipment and five police officers goes missing. The kidnappers possess detailed knowledge of the police's procedures and have planned several steps ahead. The police must meet a list of demands to ensure the hostages' release, including the delivery of a large ransom. Any delay will cost lives. The clock has begun to tick.Actors

La police de Hong Kong assiste aux obsèques des deux surintendants tués lors du film précédent. Peu de temps après, le commissaire Sean Lau (Aaron Kwok) reçoit un appel de l'un des responsables du vol du fourgon de police qui lui dit que sa femme a été enlevée et qu'elle sera échangée contre Joe Lee (Eddie Peng). The movie begins as the two-year term expires, and all the elders of the Wo Shing society are in the process of electing a new chairman, with some last-minute "campaigning" from both Lok, and Big D a few days prior to the election. Lok is shown to be calm, patient and even-tempered, while Big D, who attempts to buy the election, is boisterous, impatient and quick tempered. Eye in the Sky takes place around the darker side of Hong Kong society. The story begins with a group of organised burglars successfully robbing a jewelry store. Wet-behind-the-ears new recruit Piggy (Kate Tsui) is plunged at the deep end in her first surveillance assignment working alongside her mentor, Sergeant Wong (Simon Yam). They work for the Hong Kong Police Force's Criminal Intelligence Bureau.
