Synopsis
Sam White is a bi-racial film production major at Winchester University, a prestigious and predominantly white school. With her sharp tongued and witty radio show Dear White People and her self-published book, Ebony and Ivy, Sam causes a stir among the administration and student body alike, criticizing white people and the racist transgressions at Winchester.Actors

In 1957 suburban Connecticut, Cathy Whitaker appears to be the perfect wife, mother, and homemaker. Omar Ali is a young man living in Battersea in the Wandsworth area of South London, right by the railway station during the mid-1980s. His father, Hussein, once a famous left-wing British Pakistani journalist in Bombay, lives in London but hates Britain's society and its international politics. His dissatisfaction with the world and a family tragedy have led him to sink into alcoholism, so that Omar has to be his carer. By contrast, Omar's paternal uncle Nasser is a successful entrepreneur and an active member of the London Pakistani community. Omar's father asks his uncle to give Omar a job and, after working for a brief time as a car washer in one of his uncle's garages, he is assigned the task of managing a run-down laundrette and turning it into a profitable business.

Jeff and Nealy Lang (Maguire and Banks) are a young Seattle couple. Jeff is a doctor and Nealy owns a small shop. They have a two-year-old son and are looking to lay down some new grass in their backyard. However, since there are worms in the grass as it is laid down, a group of raccoons manage to destroy it on a regular basis. This prompts Jeff to go to great lengths to rid their yard of the raccoons. He decides to order poison online and he applies it to a can of tuna fish. Not long later, Jeff and Nealy's next door neighbor Lila (Linney) comes to Jeff and reports that her cat, Matthew, is missing. He knows nothing of the disappearance, but hopes for the best.

The movie is set around a small group of characters experiencing relationships which build and crumble before the viewers eyes. The title of the film refers to the belief, expressed by several of characters, that the goldfish retains a memory of something for only three seconds. Tom, one of the principal characters in the film, draws comparisons between this and the human tendency to jump from one relationship to the next, "forgetting" the pain that any previous one might have caused. The film shows complexities involved in straight, gay, lesbian, and bisexual relationships. Writer/director Liz Gill says the film was influenced by the work of directors Robert Altman and Richard Linklater, particularly Linklater's film Slacker.

Fred and Keith were childhood friends who dreamed of being triad members. As their became adults, they have achieved the dream and joined many gangs. However, after all the boss dies, the two were considered as jinxes by people and no gangs want to take them in. The two then depend on themselves to do business and got a prostitute from Singapore, Jane. Jane, however, believed she was supposed to be model and the two of them did not have courage to put her to work. Jane is also later found out to be a lesbian. Later, famous triad leader Kwan comes and takes Fred and Keith in to prove to people that he is invulnerable to their jinx. Under Kwan, these two manage to become triad heroes. However, later thing go wrong and Kwan is turned against the two and they must strike back to protect themselves.
