En 1946, Marco prend du bon temps et navigue sur le Lac Majeur. Lors d'une escale il se fait aborder par Maître Orimbelli qui semble s'ennuyer. Ce dernier l'invite à dîner chez lui et lui présente sa femme irascible et sa belle-sœur Matilde, dont le mari est mort à la guerre. Orimbelli insiste pour que Marco reste dormir dans la plus belle chambre de la villa : la chambre de l'évêque. Le lendemain, Marco, qui doit aller rejoindre Charlotte, une amie, trouve Orimbelli qui l'attend sur son bateau. Celui-ci, jouant l'apitoiement, lui force la main pour profiter du voyage. Marco cède. Il ne tardera pas à découvrir qu'Orimbelli est prêt à tout pour arriver à ses fins avec les femmes qui passent à sa portée.

Le film retrace les tribulations de Marcella Valmarin (Agostina Belli), pendant le Fascisme, son écroulement, puis pendant l'après-guerre. La scène ayant été censurée, il doit aller le chercher dans les archives de la Censure. 3/ Guillaume « Dents longues » de Luigi Filippo D'Amico : Une chaîne de télévision organise un casting pour sélectionner le nouveau présentateur du journal télévisé. Bertone réussi tous les tests, mais sa denture chevaline pousse le jury à vouloir l'éliminer sans lui en révéler la cause. Bertone se révèle inébranlable.

The film is set in Rome in 1922. Two friends returning from the First World War, Rocchetti and Cavazza, participating in the Fascist Party, are convinced that the movement and the leader Mussolini can guarantee a period of peace, growth and stability in an Italy torn destruction of the bombs. Unfortunately the joys of the two friends soon vanish, as Mussolini proves to be a tyrant, who performs after the March on Rome. Set in Rome and its surroundings, the film tells in a frighteningly realistic, ruthless and grotesque the evil of two powerful men of Italy in the seventies: a Director of illegal buildings (Vittorio Gassman), extremist fascist, and an upright judge, cynical looking in part to the Italian law (Ugo Tognazzi). Both can not stand each other, given the contrasts between the two men in any social, political and philosophical. Everyone hates each other and would like to delete it, but just because of the bad example that the two men give power to the people, many Italians are adversely affected because of cheating and rudeness of the fascist manufacturer and the communist magistrate. The director Dino Risi underlines the misdeeds and the weakness of the Italian people to react accordingly, by focusing on the story of these two men who are each other's opposite of the net.
