The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Ritesh Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey and Aashish Chaudhary. It is the first installment of Dhamaal film series.
The film is an official remake of the 1963 American comedy, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. It also features influences from other contemporary movies such as Road Trip, Bean - The Movie, Mr. Bean, Rat Race, Dude, Where's My Car? and Johnny English.
In 2011, the film spawned a sequel, under the title of Double Dhamaal, with the lead cast reprising their roles.
Synopsis
Dhamaal is about four friends; Boman Contractor (Aashish Chaudhary), who lives a wealthy lifestyle with his eccentric dad, Nari (Asrani), who loves his antique car more than his son, and asks his son to leave when he damages the car; dim-witted Manav (Jaaved Jaffrey), his elder brother Adi (Arshad Warsi); and Roy (Ritesh Deshmukh), a trickster who wears a magnetized belt buckle. All four are afflicted by the get-rich-quick virus. Their fortunes take a turn after they accidentally bump into an underworld don Bose (Prem Chopra) whilst he is about to die, who tells them about a hidden treasure in St. Sebastian Garden, Goa including ₹10 crores. The group race towards Goa in Nari's stolen car, little knowing that their plans will soon be foiled, albeit hilariously, by Police Inspector Kabir Nayak (Sanjay Dutt), who wants the money at any cost.Actors

The story continues from the previous film. The four good-for-nothing friends Roy (Deshmukh), Adi (Warsi), Manav (Jaaferi) and Boman (Chaudhary), are still conning people for a living. One day, they see their enemy Kabir (Sanjay Dutt) driving the luxurious Mercedes Benz, and disguise themselves to find out the secret behind his success. They investigate and find that he lives off his wife's wealth. They then blackmail him into making them his business partners, but little do the four idiots know that Kabir and his wife Kamini (Sherawat) along with his sister Kiya (Ranaut) have an agenda of their own. Kabir connects them with an investor named Bata Bhai (Satish Kaushik) who is also a part-time don. The four friends steal Bata Bhai's money, and the money is then stolen by Kabir and his family. Kabir leaves the country along with his family, and leaves the four idiots to get killed by Bata Bhai. However, the four friends leave the city and manage to track Kabir down in Macau. They make a plan to ruin Kabir's happiness and take their money back by going in disguise. Roy cons Kiya by pretending to be in love with her, whilst Adi pretends to be Kabir's secretary. Boman poses as a woman in love with Kabir to break his relationship. Manav poses as various characters. Though, Kabir, Kamini, and Kiya have their own plan. They caught the four of them in their act.

Police Inspector Veer Chauhan is an honest and diligent man, who lives in India with his wife, Naina, and a son, Sahil. While Veer likes to go by the book, his partner, Inspector Khan, is exactly the opposite, reckless, and trigger-happy. When Veer is told that his son requires a bone-marrow transplant, Veer does his best, but is unable to come up with any donor, and is told that Sahil may not live long. Veer finds out that the only bone-marrow transplant compatible with that of Sahil is that of jailed criminal, Balli. The only problem is Balli is not likely to even consider donating any organ of his body, as Veer was the one who had arrested him. A short while later, Balli appears to have a change of heart, agrees to be a donor, and is transported to the hospital, but escapes. Now with time running out, Veer must locate Balli - that is if he is not shot dead first by Khan.

Lakhan Singh (Sonu Sood), a.k.a. Lucky, is the "king of the Australian underworld".
