Add to a movie listDr. Wai in "The Scripture with No Words" (Chinese: 冒險王; Cantonese Yale: Mo him wong; literally: "Adventure King") is a 1996 Hong Kong action film directed by Ching Siu-tung and starring Jet Li.
It won the Golden Horse Award for "Best Visual Effects" and was nominated at the 16th Hong Kong Film Awards for "Best Action Choreography".
During the production, a fire destroyed HK$10 million worth of sets, resulting in severe budget problems. In an attempt to limit the damage, a special export version was cut (which omitted parts that seemed too Chinese) to attract international audiences.
Synopsis
A pulp serial author with numerous personal problems resulting in a serious case of writer's block, temporarily escapes reality by living vicariously through one of his lead characters in a story about a quest for a mythical scripture. This story within a story has Jet Li up against an enormous mutant rat, Japanese sumo wrestlers and ninjas, although the pen is mightier than the sword (or metal grill, as it were) in this film by famed director Ching Siu-tung.(Note the beginning description of the plot given here seems to be different from the English dubbed version).Actors

The film starts with Abbott Fahai and his assistant Neng Ren heading towards a snow blizzard through a magical door. An ice harpy appears at the top of the mountains and turns the impetuous Neng Ren into an ice statue. She then reveals her past and reasons to kill all men. Unable to persuade the ice harpy to turn over a new leaf, Fahai is forced to fight the ice harpy. The battle ends with Fahai capturing the ice harpy using a demon trapper, which releases Neng Ren from ice. Neng Ren is then tasked to confine the ice harpy at Lei Feng Pagoda, and the master and assistant head back to the door which disappears after closing behind them. At Lei Feng Pagoda, Neng Ren transfers the ice harpy from the demon trapper into the magic circle, which holds other trapped demons in it.

The movie opens with the assassination of a man of unknown identity. A team of three CIA officers, including Jack Chen (played by Daniel Wu), a rookie, watch through surveillance as a sexy female assassin named Fiona Birch (Marit Thoresen) enters the man's heavily guarded apartment suite and, after having sex with him, kills him by breaking his spine with her bare hands. As she makes her escape in her white Porsche 911 GT3, her car is hit by a rocket. As the officers rush over to extricate her from the wreckage, a woman in a limousine shoots her to death.

Hong Kong's gambling champion Cool (Louis Koo) was once boundlessly glorious, specializing in a card-flying stunt that reputed the gambling world. In Asia, only Japan's Tetsuo (Yasuaki Kurata) is considered a worthy opponent to Cool. Cool is bent on defeating Tetsuo to become Asia's number one. To gain this title, Cool works hard to improve his gambling skills, but was framed by his god-brother Yeung Kwong (Ben Lam), who tricks Cool's girlfriend, Karen (Athena Chu), and marries her. Cool rushes into the wedding hall and falls into Yeung's trap. Karen sees through Yeung's scheme and while protecting Cool, she gets shot and becomes a vegetable as a result. However, since Karen was leaglly married to Yeung, Cool was unable take her away back to Hong Kong and Cool retires from the gambling world and opens a Chinese restaurant in Japan and everyday, Cool would secretly take a look at the unconscious Karen.

The film is set in the Ming dynasty, during the Wanli Emperor. Gu Jinfu, a eunuch from the spy agency Eastern Depot, leads a team to retrieve the Sunflower Manual, a martial arts manual which was stolen from the imperial palace. They track down and attack Lin Zhennan. Lin Zhennan encounters Linghu Chong and Yue Lingshan, two students from the Mount Hua Sect, and asks them to inform his son, Lin Pingzhi, where the manual is hidden.
