Shot on digital video, Boat features closeup shots of a man (eventually revealed to be Lynch himself) taking a speedboat onto a lake, while a young woman (Emily Stofle) provides a dreamy, confused description of what is happening. Halfway through, Lynch turns to the camera and announces "we're going to try to go fast enough to go into the night". He speeds up the boat, which does indeed travel into the night.

Shot on digital video and set on an apocalyptic-industrial landscape reminiscent of works like Eraserhead or Industrial Soundscape, it features a bug crawling over a house and falling on his back. Accompanied by trademark dark ambient music, the short film ends with a close-up of the door opening, showing a lighted room with some kind of machinery on it, as the ambient sounds suggest a buzzing light and mechanical work.

Cotillard, whose character is not given a name in the film, enters her Shanghai hotel room at night. As she nears her room she hears a 1920s tango, which, as she opens her hotel room door, she sees is coming from an old 78 rpm record playing on a vintage record player. She stops the music, and instantly an expensive Dior bag appears in the room in a puff of smoke.

A group of four teens walk into the theater, thinking they are going to see a dance. A giant pair of scissors are sticking out of the screen and the teens start to talk to the man in the projection room. The screen starts showing one teen, Cindy, dancing in a tutu and another teen, Tom, with a bloody face. Tom begins to say he feels strange and begins to look at Cindy in a weird way. A scream and the words "No, Tom, no" are audible as smoke consumes most of the theater. In the smoke, the audience can see Cindy dancing in a tutu while she says, "So, I went dancing. I've always loved to dance.
