Ezra is a 2007 drama film directed by Newton I. Aduaka. It was shown at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and the 2007 Ouagadougou Panafrican Film and Television Festival where it won the Grand Prize.

Synopsis

Ezra, a young Sierra Leonean ex-fighter, is struggling to find his bearings and return to a normal life after the civil war that laid waste to his country. His everyday life is divided between a psychological rehabilitation centre and a national reconciliation tribunal organized under the auspices of the UNO. During the rehabilitation trial in which Ezra takes part, he has to face his sister who is accusing him of the murder of their parents. But Ezra does not remember a thing. Will Ezra admit this horror and thus be forgiven by his sister and his village community?

Le film se déroule dans l'île de São Tomé à la fin des années 1990. Une vieille femme mourante appelle son fils qui vit au loin. Son cri prend la forme concrète d'un énorme fruit plus haut qu'un homme, qui vient tomber du ciel devant la hutte du fils. Celui-ci comprend aussitôt : "Ma m'appelle !" Il nomme le fruit Früchtchen (« petit fruit »). Le Früchtchen commence à rouler et guide l'enfant à travers toute l'île, en direction de la case de Ma. Le film est à la fois un drame, un road movie haut en couleurs avec des moments humoristiques, et un documentaire sur l'île, ses habitants et sa culture (une sorte de docu-fiction).

Three Australian Army officers of the Bushveldt Carbineers serving in South Africa during the Second Boer War (1899–1902) are being court-martialed for war crimes. As the Romans under Trajan take the Dacian capital Sarmizegetusa, the Dacian king Decebalus and his closest followers are forced to retreat. Trajan takes command of the city and orders one of his officers, Tiberius, to pursue the defeated king. In a cave, Decebalus broods on his defeat, and tells his devoted supporter Gerula that the Dacian people must continue to resist. Tiberius and his men catch up with Decebalus and Gerula. Decebalus kills himself to avoid capture. To Gerula's horror, Tiberius chops off Decebalus' head and right hand as trophies to take back to Trajan. While they are returning to the Roman camp Gerula escapes. He gathers together a group of Dacians and takes them to a part of the land not yet under Roman control.
