Family Resemblances (French: Un air de famille) is a 1996 French comedy film. It was directed by Cédric Klapisch, and written by Klapisch, Agnès Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri. The film stars Bacri, Jaoui, Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Catherine Frot, Vladimir Yordanoff, Claire Maurier and Zinedine Soualem.
It won the César Award for Best Writing, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.
Synopsis
An average French family ostensibly celebrates a birthday in a restaurant. In one evening and during one meal, family history, tensions, collective and separate grudges, delights, and memories both clash and coalesce. Indeed, poking each other's sore spots turns out to be the main order of business. Henri (Bacri) runs a saloon that he inherited from his father called "The Sleepy Dad," and in the near-empty bar, he plays host to several members of the family as they mark the 35th birthday of his sister-in-law, Yolande (Frot). Henri's sister, Betty (Jaoui), is 30, single, and not very happy about it; his brother (and Yolande's husband), Philippe (Yordanoff), is an executive in a growing software company; Mother (Maurier) is the siblings' strong-willed matriarch; and Henri's paralyzed dog is on hand, whom someone describes as "like a rug, but alive." It's not been a good day for most of them: Philippe is anxious that his boss might not have liked the tie he wore on television; Betty is depressed about the sad state of her current relationship; Henri has just learned that his wife is leaving him; and Mother is tossing caustic barbs at everyone left and right. Henri's bartender Denis (Darroussin) is the one neutral party on hand, and he provides the voice of reason in the midst of the bickering.Actors

Filmed in the aftermath of the global financial crisis, and exploring themes of globalization, class distinctions and income inequality, the film opens in the French seaside town of Dunkirk. France (Karin Viard), a middle-aged divorcée, has just been laid off after 20 years at the same shipping company. She takes an overdose of pills but is rushed to hospital and makes a complete recovery. Castella (Bacri) owns a steel factory. He is told that in order to conduct a business with a group of Iranians, he must learn English, so he hires Clara (Alvaro) to teach him. His wife, Angelique (Millet), is an interior decorator who loves her dog and is in the process of working on her sister-in-law's apartment. The couple go to the theatre, where their niece is performing in a production of Bérénice, accompanied by the driver, Bruno (Chabat), and Castella's temporary bodyguard, Franck (Lanvin). While there, he sees Clara, who is an actress. Meanwhile, we learn from Franck and Bruno's conversation that the former was a police officer. After working tirelessly with his partner towards bringing down a seemingly untouchable criminal, their investigation was abruptly ended. Franck had finally suffered enough corruption and quit the force, while the partner he respected never spoke a word about it.

For his first full-length film, Cédric Klapisch relates the story of a Parisian department store through its employees. A new director, Monsieur Lepetit, is named at the head of the company so as to save it from bankruptcy. To this end, he decides to create a company spirit with group psychotherapy, bungee jumping and other tricks. In this first film Klapisch's main purpose was to show the difference between the behavior of a person when he is alone and when he is in a group. In order to show this, he filmed the employees during their commute, at work and in other scenes of daily life, which made Klapisch style's reputation. This topic will become recurrent in many of his films. At the end of the film he succeeds in saving the company, nevertheless the store is sold to build a hotel.

Durant l'été 1958, Frédérique, 13 ans, et sa petite sœur Sophie, 8 ans, partent comme tous les ans en vacances à La Baule pour aller voir leur oncle Léon, leur tante Bella et leurs cousins. Mais cette année, Léna, leur mère, leur annonce qu'elle ne viendra que plus tard. Frédérique ne trouve pas cette situation normale. En effet, en réalité, Léna ne s'entend plus avec son mari Michel, qui, lui aussi, a décidé de ne pas venir en vacances dans un premier temps. Léna qui souhaite le divorce, est tombée amoureuse de Jean-Claude, un artiste. Les deux amoureux vont à la plage de La Baule, mais leur relation doit rester discrète, alors que, pendant ce temps, les enfants découvrent leurs premiers émois sentimentaux. Mais Michel et leurs enfants Frédérique et Sophie finiront par découvrir assez vite la réalité, avec ses allers-retours un peu étranges et sa nouvelle voiture dont Michel se demande à quoi elle peut bien lui servir.

Jacques Mazel, the son of a wealthy merchant, and Patricia Amoretti, daughter of a well-digger, live in a small village in the Provence region of France while Europe is at the brink of World War I. She has just turned 18 and is smitten with the handsome Jacques when he carries her across a stream to bring lunch to her father who is digging a well. After their second encounter Jacques, a French Air Force pilot, is unexpectedly reassigned. He must leave immediately to replace a pilot who recently broke his leg. Because he cannot meet Patricia as planned the next morning, he leaves an explanatory letter for her but his overly protective mother burns the letter. Patricia concludes Jacques rejected her because they come from different social classes. Later, Patricia discovers that Jacques has left her with child. The parents of Jacques reject the idea that their son conceived a child out of wedlock and refuse to acknowledge the baby. Her father, who had idolized her, sends Patricia to live with his sister in another village to spare his four other daughters from learning of the illegitimate child. Patricia declines an offer of marriage from her father's friend, Félipe, partly because her younger sister, Amanda, has a crush on him. Eventually, Jacques, who was thought to have been shot down by the Germans, returns from a POW camp and learns he has a son.
