It stars William Ragsdale, Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall, and Amanda Bearse. The film follows young Charley Brewster, who discovers that his next-door neighbor, Jerry Dandrige, is a vampire. When no one believes him, Charley decides to get Peter Vincent, a TV show host who acted in films as a vampire hunter, to stop Jerry's killing spree.
The film was released on August 2, 1985 to positive reviews and became a commercial success, grossing $24.9 million at the box office. Over the years, the film gained more reappraisal by critics and has since gained a cult following. The film was followed by a sequel, Fright Night Part 2 in 1988, and a 3D remake in 2011, which was in turn followed by an in-name-only sequel/reboot in 2013.
Synopsis

Charles Lee Ray also nicknamed 'Chucky' and the 'Lakeshore Strangler' is a wanted fugitive and is on the run from the police in the streets of Chicago in November 1988. Vincent (Phil Fondacaro) and his associates explore a forest, until they find a cave containing a coffin with the skeleton of Lilith, mother of all vampires. Vincent takes a box out of his pocket, which contains the four sections of her heart. He puts it in her body, and she rapidly begins reanimating. Revived, she rips the hearts out of the associates and goes after Vincent, who produces the key artifact seen in Demon Knight. Vincent then explains that the artifact from "Demon Knight" and the blood within it allows him to have full control over her. Vincent then turns to Lilith and asks her if he allows her to eat the last associate would she then behave. She replies "Anything for you, lover".

In October 1974 rural Grove's Mill, Minnesota, widow Mare Blackburn's (Kate Jackson) 3-year-old son Luke (Ross Swanson) is kidnapped by an unknown woman when Mare briefly relaxes her supervision of Luke in the small town's supermarket. Mare blames herself for the kidnapping and has difficulty processing the loss. Sixteen years later, Mare is now in a happy long-distance relationship with Dan (Chris Sarandon) - a California man who moved to Minneapolis after the suicide of his son - when a young man named Mark (Rick Schroder) shows up, claiming to be her son. Mare is reluctant to take him in, fearing that he is playing a cruel joke, until he shares memories from the past and shows a scar from a stove burn that matches with Luke's. He explains that he was raised in Idaho, and is now on a rest stop in Minnesota before returning to New York to take a job. Mare is excited to catch up on sixteen years with her son, but Dan continues to doubt Mark's credibility.

The plot revolves around the return of Brian Woods (Leitch), a "problem teen."
