It has been rated a 12 by BBFC (British Board of Film Classification). The film is composed of several storylines, some of which coincide, most of which are comical.
The film had already accumulated a cult following before its showing at the 2006 Fantastic Fest. It was released on Region 1 DVD in March 2008.
Synopsis
Si l’on voit les éléments les plus banals de la vie quotidienne de façon individuelle, ils peuvent sembler profondément bizarres à tout moment. À contre terme, les choses les plus inimaginable sont parfois plus faciles à comprendre. Il ne serait tardé à rentrer dans Funky Forest afin de comprendre ce qu'est l'absurdité pure et dure. Vous ne verrez point entre ces lignes le synopsis sensé d'un film avec un début et une fin. Funky Forest est un grand mélange de fondus, d’absurdités, de retours en arrière, d’ellipses et de rêves lucides où les moments magiques et insensés s'enchaînent toujours d’une façon audacieuse et aléatoire. En parcourant Funky Forest, on y découvre un spectacle d'un surréalisme psychédélique de première eau. Multitude d’anomalies biologiques inexplicables, personnages extraterrestres, bio-curiosités s'entrechoquant avec toute la logique chaotique d’un vidéoclip seront liés au malaise des balbutiements amoureux et autres déceptions du genre.Actors

The film is concerned with the lives of the Haruno family, who live in rural Tochigi Prefecture, the countryside north of Tokyo. Nobuo is a hypnotherapist. He teaches his son, Hajime, Go. Hajime becomes an excellent Go player, but he has a rough time with girls and puberty. Yoshiko refuses to be an average housewife and works on animated film projects at home. Partie à la banque vérifier ses économies, Toshiko se retrouve nez à nez avec un braqueur cagoulé... Plus tard, accidentellement, elle percute la voiture de deux hommes qui poursuivaient un des deux braqueurs. Celui-ci se nomme Samehada. Il vient en effet de braquer la banque mais a décidé de ne pas rendre le magot à son patron et s'enfuit au grand désarroi de son complice, Yamada. Samehada se retrouve poursuivi par son ancien complice et ses hommes de main, en compagnie de Toshiko qui elle aussi fuit, non pas des yakuzas mais son oncle obsédé.

A pharmacist, police officer, and a toilet cleaner are riding a bus on a fateful night. The trio share a bizarre and tragic, life-altering experience when the bus becomes hijacked by a terrorist. The terrorist forces the three into a violent game of Rock, Paper, Scissors and Russian roulette, which toilet cleaner Testsu loses. The terrorist then shoots Tetsu, causing the bus to make a sudden stop. After noticing that pharmacist Saki has only one eye, the terrorist suddenly feels remorse and finally turns the weapon on himself. Members of a cult, modeled on Aum Shinrikyo, sabotage a city's water supply, then commit mass suicide near the shores of a lake. Family members (the credited cast, minus Asano) of the perpetrators meet at the lake to observe the anniversary of their loved ones' deaths. They meet a former member of the cult (Asano), who had trained for the water sabotage attack but defected at the last minute. He leads them to the cabin he's currently holed up in, where he and the deceased cult members had trained for the attack, and they pass the night reminiscing about those they'd known and lost, shown cinematically through improvised dialogues and flashbacks. Sakata, the aforementioned surviving cult and last to see most of the departed alive, and Atsushi (Arata) interrogate one another about Yûko (played by actress/model Ryo), Atsushi's sister, whom Sakata had asked to run away with him the night before the attack.

The Sky Crawlers is set in an alternative history timeline where although the world is at peace, in order to ease the tension of a populace accustomed to war and aggression, private corporations contract fighter pilots to engage in actual combat operations against each other. The film introduces a mystery involving characters called Kildren (キルドレ, Kirudore , "kill-dolls") - humanoids genetically engineered in a way that enables to live eternally in adolescence.
