Synopsis
En 1883, le chef apache Geronimo et son groupe de guerriers sont victimes des attaques américaines et mexicaines. En échange d'un territoire et de nourriture, les guerriers se rendent alors à contrecœur. Mais bientôt Geronimo va s'évader de la réserve et déclarer la guerre aux Américains.Actors

Sam Whiskey (Reynolds), an adventurer and rogue in the Old West, is seduced by widow Laura Breckenridge (Dickinson) into promising to retrieve $250,000 in gold bars from a riverboat that sank in Colorado's Platte River. The gold had been stolen by Laura's late husband from the Denver Mint and replaced by plated fakes. She offers Sam $20,000 to recover and return it before the theft is discovered and her family name is ruined. Sam enlists the help of Jedidiah Hooker (Davis), a local blacksmith, and O. W. Bandy (Walker), an Army friend turned inventor, offering them shares of the reward.

Sometime in the 1950s in Chicago a man, Cecil Moe (Michael Madsen) returns home from work with his friend, Joe Cleveland. When Cecil arrives home, he finds his wife Jean and her friend Shannon pouring his wine down the kitchen sink. Trying to stop her, Cecil grabs Jean's arm and rips her sleeve, he claims she threw away his "best friend", Jean says "Your best friend just cost you your marriage!" Jean calls her mother telling her that she will leave him. Cecil retires to his bedroom and has a nightmare of his life and does not like it. He wakes up and takes his son Ronney to Joe's apartment and announces that he wants to commit suicide, he later finds a phonebook and calls a Pastor named Tom (Cecil Moe) and explains he needs help.

At the family home in Los Angeles, patriarch Joe Lucasta learns that his friend Otis has sold a farm, distributing the proceeds to his children. Otis' son Rudolph is bringing his share to California, where Otis hopes that Joe can find a wife for Rudolph. Joe's son Stanley and son-in-law Frank hope to get the money by being the ones to find Rudolph a wife. Though uninterested in the money, Joe's wife Theresa suggests youngest daughter Anna, whom Joe put out of the house some time earlier. Theresa believes Anna is good and sees a chance for her to get a fresh start. Stanley, Frank and Frank's wife Stella regard Anna as a "slut", but will try to make her seem respectable to deceive Rudolph. Joe objects to their designs on Rudolph's money and to Anna returning, as he also holds her in low regard. Eventually, Frank browbeats Joe into going to Anna's last known whereabouts, a dockside cafe in San Diego, to bring her home.
