Girls' School is a 1938 comedy film starring Anne Shirley. The film was directed by John Brahm and based upon a Tess Slesinger story. Morris Stoloff and Gregory Stone were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Music, Scoring.

Synopsis

The film revolves around wealthy high school teenagers who are sent to a boarding school to learn proper etiquette. One of the girls causes a scandal when she stays out all night, then announces on planning to elope with a boy. She gets in trouble when the faculty finds out through a monitor's report from a reluctant poor girl attending on scholarship.

When the film opens, a St. Bernard puppy and a large group of others are stolen from a pet store by two thieves, Harvey (Oliver Platt) and Vernon (Stanley Tucci). After meeting a dog during his escape from the thieves, the St. Bernard sneaks into the home of the Newton family. The workaholic father, George Newton (Charles Grodin), doesn't want the responsibility of owning a dog, but his wife, Alice (Bonnie Hunt), and their children, Ryce, Ted and Emily, convince him otherwise. While trying to name him, Emily (Sarah Rose Karr), plays a portion of Ludwig van Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and he barks along: thus they name him "Beethoven."

Chronique de la vie d'un petit village de Lorraine vers 1935, à travers un couple d'instituteurs et leur fils Pierre. L'action est centrée sur l'achat par le père, événement pour l'époque, d'une automobile Peugeot 301. L'instituteur a des scrupules à se faire voir comme un parvenu à cause de cet achat, mais son frère, l'oncle Henri, est plus excentrique et le pousse à assumer la modernité, ils s'exercent ensemble à sa conduite. Prenant de l'assurance, l'instituteur décide d'emmener sa classe en promenade pédagogique à bord du véhicule, mais l'équipée ne se passe pas comme prévu et donne lieu à des épisodes burlesques. Un peu perturbé par tous ces évènements, Pierre, échoue à l'examen du certificat d'études primaires.

Samia Zibra, jeune et inexpérimentée, débute comme conseillère principale d'éducation (CPE). Originaire de l'Ardèche, elle demande un poste en région parisienne pour des raisons particulières. Elle découvre ainsi le collège en zone d'éducation prioritaire (ZEP) de la cité des Francs-Moisins, à Saint-Denis en Seine-Saint-Denis. Elle y rencontre de nombreux problèmes, notamment le manque de discipline et la réalité sociale du quartier. Elle découvre cependant l'incroyable vitalité et l'humour (des élèves comme des surveillants) qui règnent dans l'établissement. Dans l'équipe des surveillants, Samia peut notamment compter sur Moussa, le « Grand » du quartier, et Dylan, le chambreur. Samia va peu à peu s'adapter à ce nouvel univers. Sa situation personnelle la rapproche de Yanis, un élève vif et intelligent avec un potentiel gâché par son insolence et mis dans la classe des « SOP » (sans options). Samia va cependant essayer de le sortir de son échec scolaire pour lui proposer un avenir meilleur.
