Gupt: The Hidden Truth (English: Secret), commonly known as Gupt, is a 1997 Bollywood suspense thriller film, directed by Rajiv Rai. It stars Bobby Deol, Manisha Koirala and Kajol in lead roles, whilst Paresh Rawal, Om Puri and Raj Babbar appear in supporting roles. The film's soundtrack was composed by Viju Shah, while the lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi.
Upon release, Gupt was a commercial success, with its storyline and soundtrack earning critical praise. It grossed ₹250 million (US$3 8 million) at the domestic box office.
Synopsis
Governor Jaisingh Sinha (Raj Babbar) is a popular and prominent political figure of the state, besides being well known as an upright person. One day, Gov. Sinha presides over a meeting on the issue of "Open Door Policy", a scheme which will pave the way for foreign companies to operate in India, by implementing usage of computer, industrial machinery etc. The meeting is attended by influential industrialist Meghnad Chaudhry (Dalip Tahil), Union leader Vilas Rao (Sharat Saxena) and minister Mantriji (Prem Chopra), among others. While Chaudhry is in favour of the policy because it would generate foreign investment in India, Vilas Rao strongly opposes the policy which would bring with it the unemployment of a large number of workers because of the utilization of computers and industrial machinery. The difference of opinion of Chaudhry and Vilas Rao leads to a heated argument between the two for which Gov. Sinha terminates the meeting without arriving at any decision on the policy.Actors

The story revolves around a big group of friends consisting of Atul (Akshay Kumar), Vijay (Sunil Shetty), Divya (Manisha Koirala), Vivek (Sonu Nigam), Prem (Aftab Shivdasani), Abdul (Arshad Warsi) and Rajesh (Rajat Bedi) amongst others. Divya is a reincarnated soul who herself is unaware of this. When Rajesh raped Divya, she commits suicide thinking that all of her friends were involved in the rape. The rest of the friends are completely unaware of anything and are innocent. When Kapil (Armaan Kohli), the lover of Divya's previous life finds out about her death, he comes back to life to get revenge from all of the group. As a punishment, Rajesh is strangled to death first. This is followed by Abdul being electrocuted. Although Atul & his other friends don't have a chance to tell Divya that they're truly innocent, they're not going to forgive Divya & Kapil because two innocent people including Abdul are already dead. Rajesh was the only guilty person. It would've been better for Divya & Kapil to ask them if Abdul was guilty or not? A priest (Raj Babbar) gives the group of friends a necklace and assures them that they cannot be harmed when they are wearing the necklace. Atul doesn't believe in any of this. However, when he is attacked by Kapil, he realizes he survived because the necklace was stuck on his hand.

Young, beautiful and intelligent Maya (Deepa Sahi) lives with her father in a palatial mansion in rural India. Sonia Sehgal and Naina Sehgal (both played by Kajol) are twins. The two are completely different from each other, Sonia being the tomboyish twin and Naina being the shy one. With revenge in her mind she meets Suraj Singh Rathod (Sanjay Dutt), a blind military veteran and he helps her physically and mentally to defeat her fear of Gokul. While Suraj trains Naina they develop feelings for each other. After an argument, Suraj refuses to meet Naina and she decides to go after Gokul all by herself. One day Gokul kidnaps Naina's younger sister Dia from school in order to scare and warn Naina with what risk she is playing. That day Naina's mother decides to leave for Naintal immediately as her daughter's life is at risk. However Naina cannot control her hatred, and wanted to avenge her sister at any cost. Naina lays a trap for Gokul and tries to kill him but Gokul ties her up and tries to rape her like her sister. Suraj arrives at her house and fights Gokul but ends up being stabbed. Naina gets free and manages to shoot Gokul dead.

The film starts with ACP Yashvardhan IPS (John Abraham) in the hospital, recalling the accident that changed his life forever. Yash is a dutiful, responsible and stone-hearted police officer in the Narcotics Control Bureau whose only passion in life is crime-fighting. He has no family or loved ones and has been alone in life since he can remember. Everything changes when Yash meets Maya (Genelia D'Souza), an independent and lovely woman. Amar Kant Varma (Shahrukh Khan) is a Program executive for All India Radio. He is dispatched from New Delhi to cover festivities in Northeast India. On his way there, during a rainy night, Amar stops at Haflong train station to catch Baraks Valley express, as the train runs late, Amar meets a mysterious woman by herself who asks him for a cup of tea.
