Highway is a 2014 Indian drama film written and directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The film stars Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles.The film narrates the story of a young woman who develops Stockholm syndrome. Screened in the Panorama section of the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival, the film released worldwide on 21 February 2014 The film is based on the episode of the same name from the Zee TV anthology series Rishtey, starring Aditya Srivastava and Kartika Rane,which was also written and directed by Imtiaz Ali.
Synopsis
The story begins on the eve of the wedding of Veera Tripathi (Alia Bhatt), the daughter of a rich business tycoon. She is at a Fuel Station by the highway with her fiancé when she is abducted. The gang who kidnaps her panics when they find out that her father has links in the government. However, Mahabir Bhati (Randeep Hooda), one of her abductors, is willing to do whatever it takes to see this through. They continuously move to different cities, to avoid being tracked by police. As the days go by, Veera finds peace and a new-found freedom in her bondage to the point that she confides in him of her troubled childhood. Her fear of abduction is taken over by a sense of freedom.Actors

Rahul Khanna (Abhishek Bachchan) is the only son of wealthy industrialists, who have no time for their son while on the other hand Rahul has nothing but time on his hands and is hell bent upon getting into trouble with the law, such as racing cars with his friends but he gets away with it most of the time by bribing the officer. Eventually his luck runs out one day while stuck in traffic and in a hurry to reach the airport for his flight to America he meddles with the traffic lights turning them all green and causing a number of vehicles to crash. This time the offence is too serious and unable to bribe the officer he is arrested. DCP Bhosle (Om Puri) wants to teach Rahul a lesson but can't think of a way other than making him do time in jail. Neha Sengupta (Hrishitaa Bhatt) inspired by a Bill clinton newspaper article, comes up with a unique punishment idea for Rahul, Community Service. The Judge likes this idea and sentences a remorseless Rahul to a senior citizen's home out in the country. Sparks fly when Rahul meets the old residents of the senior citizens' home, as they do not get on very well.

Deshu (Randeep Hooda) is a mechanic in Dubai, who has come home after his mother's death. His father is a dry, gruff police constable. Deshu unwittingly becomes a witness to a murder, when Mangli Bhai's goons chase a man, burst into his chawl, and proceed to kill the man right there. Roughened up by the police to act as a witness, and threatened by the goons to not do so, Deshu keeps his mouth shut. Later, he joins a rival gang (Hashim Bhai's), and proceeds to kill Mangli. Little by little, with his bravery and intelligence he manages to become Bhai's right-hand man, much to the dismay of his two sons, Muqarram and Shabbir.
