Le film, dont le titre est une référence évidente au film Il était une fois dans l'Ouest de Sergio Leone, raconte l'histoire d'un jeune français qui vit avec des beurs est convaincu de son origine maghrébine et qui profite du mariage d'un copain pour partir s'installer en Algérie. Il est produit en 2004.
Synopsis
Johnny Leclerc, issu d'une mère normande et d'un père alsacien, vit dans une cité de banlieue en compagnie de ses amis, beurs pour la plupart. Il se comporte comme un musulman, fait le ramadan et porte une djelaba. Il est même persuadé de s'appeler Abdelbachir et d'être né dans un petit village du bled. Quand son ami Yacine a quelques ennuis avec un caïd local et décide de retourner pour les vacances en Algérie, il s'embarque clandestinement dans les bagages de la famille Sabri pour exaucer son rêve et connaître enfin ses « racines ». À peine arrivé sur la côte algérienne, Johnny se sent comme chez lui.Actors

Lorna Cole (Rene Russo) is pregnant with LAPD sergeant Martin Riggs' baby; they are not married, but both are thinking about it. Omar Ali is a young man living in Battersea in the Wandsworth area of South London, right by the railway station during the mid-1980s. His father, Hussein, once a famous left-wing British Pakistani journalist in Bombay, lives in London but hates Britain's society and its international politics. His dissatisfaction with the world and a family tragedy have led him to sink into alcoholism, so that Omar has to be his carer. By contrast, Omar's paternal uncle Nasser is a successful entrepreneur and an active member of the London Pakistani community. Adapté du livre autobiographique d’Azouz Begag, ce film raconte l’enfance d'Omar (nom donné à Azouz dans le film) dans un bidonville de la banlieue lyonnaise de 1963. Le mot « gone » est un mot du patois lyonnais désignant les enfants. Le Chaâba (ou bidonville) est un ensemble d’habitations précaire sans hygiène et misérable, mais où il règne tout de même l’entraide, la fraternité et la solidarité. Le film développe la vie quotidienne des immigrés, le racisme et la xénophobie, le rôle de l’école dans l’intégration... Mais il souligne aussi les différences entre les modes de vies, les disparités des richesses.
