Synopsis
Vetriselvan (Sathyaraj) is an established and an old fashioned music director in the industry. He is loved and respected for his works and is termed as the greatest musician of our times. A. K. Shiva (S. J. Surya) who works as an assistant under Vetriselvan gets an opportunity to compose music for a small time film. When he seeks permission from Vetriselvan to go ahead with his first venture as a music director, Vetriselvan doesn't oppose the idea as he wouldn't have imagined even in his wildest dream that one day A. K. Shiva would surpass him in the musical world.Actors

Rahul Mithaiwala (Shahrukh Khan) is a forty-year-old bachelor living in Mumbai. His parents died in a car accident when he was eight years old, so his grandparents raised him. His grandfather (Lekh Tandon) owns a chain of confectionery shops where Rahul has been a dedicated worker helping his grandfather. Two of Rahul's friends convince to finally take a vacation and travel with them to Goa. Rahul's grandfather dies on the day of the 100th birthday celebration. His grandmother tells Rahul that his grandfather wanted his ashes to be divided into two parts—one of each to be immersed in the Ganges and Rameswaram. She asks Rahul to take the ashes to Rameswaram and disperse them. While he accepts her request, Rahul and his friends plan to dump the ashes at Goa but his grandmother wants to see him off, forcing Rahul to travel by train. He books a single ticket on the Chennai Express, planning to quickly exit and meet his friends along the way. However, as he tries to leave the train, he notices a young woman running to board it. He helps her and then four large men board the moving train, missing his chance to debark.

Pappu an eight-year-old boy who is very mischievous always troubling his mother. His mother scolds him when he eats the toothpaste, urinate in bed at night. Pappu falls down on a road one day and a young woman helps him. Pappu's elder brother plans to watch adults movie with his friends in the absence of their parents and Pappu wishes to join him to which his brother does not allow him. Angered, Paapu cuts off the power which creates a short circuit at home. Pappu's mother scolds for his dangerous mischief and shouts at her husband for not stopping with one child as Pappu is troubling her a lot. This hurts Pappu and he runs away from home to jump into a river. But he is stopped by an old man and he takes Pappu to his place. The old man introduces himself as a scientist who has his own laboratory. He insists Pappu to help him in his research of transforming a child to a young man. Pappu agrees and the scientist transforms him to a young man. Pappu starts to live as a young man physically but as a child mentally and stays away from his family. The only person other than scientist who knows the truth is his child classmate friend. Pappu meets the girl at a park who helped him once he fell down on road. Innocent child Pappu helps to remove dust from her eyes, smiles at her and leaves the place. The girl is very much attracted towards him and she looks for him every day.

The city of Chennai is rife with the nefarious activities of land mafia. There are two rival gangs, one under Ali Bhai (Prakash Raj) who resides in Dubai and controls his India operations through his brothers Guru and Ajay as well as Ali Bhai's girlfriend Mona (Brinda Parekh), and another operated by a local goon Narasimhan (Anandaraj). Ramanujam Iyengar, also known as Ambi, is an orthodox Brahmin and a straightforward consumer protection advocate living in Chennai. He expects everyone to follow the laws and prosecutes those who flout them. However, his efforts fail as circumstantial evidence always seems to favour the accused. He also fails to raise civic awareness due to pervasive corruption and a general lack of seriousness. Frustrated at his inability to bring about a change in society, his suppressed anger manifests itself in an alter-ego named "Anniyan", a grim reaper-themed serial killer who punishes corrupt and indifferent people. Anniyan creates a website, compiles a list of wrongdoers from his site, and kills them using punishments described in the Garuda Purana, one of the ancient Hindu scriptures.

A handicapped Krishna (Suriya) arrives at Mumbai. He, along with a taxi driver (Soori) travel along Mumbai to look for his brother. He then meets a close friend of Raju and tells Krishna that Raju is Raju Bhai (Suriya). He then meets JK and he tells his experience with Raju Bhai and tells him that Raju could have killed him but spared JK. Krishna finally meets Karim Bhai (Joe Malloori) and he tells Krishna that Raju and Chandru (Vidyut Jamwal) were inseparable friends and were growing dons as they emerging in the underworld their enemies too grows. Then a new Commissioner plans to clean the city and kills a few people of Raju's gang. Raju then retaliates this by kidnapping the Commissioner's daughter Jeeva (Samantha) and keeps her as a hostage for a day and when Raju goes to leave her back she tells that she actually doesn't want to go and doesn't want to marry because she didn't love anyone. Both of them then develop love. Things go well until Raju and Chandru invoke the wrath of Imran Bhai (Manoj Bajpai) who is a bigger and more powerful don than them and Chandru keeps chanting what Imran says to him that Imran would 'shoot them like pigs'. Raju then gives Chandru a surprise by capturing Imran. Chandru becomes thrilled about it and gives Raju a surprise by getting him a new car. Raju then meets Jeeva inside. Chandru tells him that he had given Raju a surprise and tells him to stay away for seven days with Jeeva. Raju and Jeeva have a blast. When Raju comes back he sees Chandru murdered in a ghastly manner. A frustrated Raju goes in search of the killers is also shot by his own man, Amar. Krishna then becomes worried. At that very time Amar gets to know that Krishna was looking for him and tries to kill Krishna. Then it is revealed that Krishna is Raju. Raju then fights them and kills Amar. He then goes to find Jackie in a horse race. Jackie tells him to ask Johny. Raju then finds Johny in a shopping mall and Johny tells him that they along with Imran had plotted to kill Chandru when Raju was away. A disappointed Raju kills Johny. Raju then kills one more betrayer in a fight and shoots him. Then Imran's men kidnap Karim Bhai's daughter. When Raju gets there Karim tells him it wasn't his daughter, it was Jeeva. Raju finally battles them and at last kills Imran Bhai. Raju, after rescuing Jeeva, reunites with her and happily leave Mumbai.

Intense young "tough" Thomas Seyr is a 28-year-old real estate broker involved in shady business deals. His business partners, Fabrice and Sami, spend much of their time ruthlessly chasing squatters and illegal immigrants out of the buildings they have procured and trying to work their way around government housing regulations. Thomas is born to this kind of work; his father, Robert, is also involved in dodgy enterprises and sometimes calls upon Thomas to beat up people who refuse to pay. Tom shows a protective and defensive attitude toward his father who doesn't always appreciate what his son does for him–so much so that when his father introduces his new girlfriend to Tom, Tom undermines her to her face, and insults her to his father, insisting she is an opportunistic "whore." Later, when he tries to enlist her help to watch over his father, she tells him they broke up due to Robert changing his attitude and she is aware of Tom's backstabbing because Robert told her. Robert by this time is in danger from a Russian gangster, Minskov (Anton Yakovlev) who scammed him out of 300,000 Euros and Tom is worried for his safety.
