The film, produced by Dhillin Mehta under Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd, stars Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor in their fourth film together with Dara Singh, Pavan Malhotra and Saumya Tandon in supporting roles. The film also inspired the 2010 Hollywood film, Leap Year.
The film tells the story of a feisty Punjabi girl who is sent off track when she bumps into a depressed Mumbai businessman on an overnight train to Delhi. While attempting to get him back on board when he alights at a station stop, both are left stranded in the middle of nowhere. Having walked out of his corporate business after being dumped by his girlfriend, the man has no destination in mind, until the girl forces him to accompany her back home and then on to elope with her secret boyfriend.
Released in the U.K. a day before its worldwide release of 26 October 2007, the film became a hit at the Indian box office as well as overseas. The distributors of the film, Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd, announced that Jab We Met would be remade by corporate entity Moser Baer in four other Indian languages: Tamil (dubbed into Telugu), Kannada and Malayalam.
Synopsis
Aditya Kashyap ( Shahid Kapoor) a wealthy industrialist meets his girlfriend at her wedding to another man. Depressed he boards a train without any ticket and while in the train, he bumps into Geet Dhillon( Kareena Kapoor) who is a talkative Punjabi girl who lives in a world of dreams. Initially Aditya finds Geet very irritating because Geet is continually talking without Aditya showing much interest.Actors

The story begins on the eve of the wedding of Veera Tripathi (Alia Bhatt), the daughter of a rich business tycoon. She is at a Fuel Station by the highway with her fiancé when she is abducted. Rahul Khanna (Abhishek Bachchan) is the only son of wealthy industrialists, who have no time for their son while on the other hand Rahul has nothing but time on his hands and is hell bent upon getting into trouble with the law, such as racing cars with his friends but he gets away with it most of the time by bribing the officer. Eventually his luck runs out one day while stuck in traffic and in a hurry to reach the airport for his flight to America he meddles with the traffic lights turning them all green and causing a number of vehicles to crash. Neha Sengupta (Hrishitaa Bhatt) inspired by a Bill clinton newspaper article, comes up with a unique punishment idea for Rahul, Community Service. The Judge likes this idea and sentences a remorseless Rahul to a senior citizen's home out in the country. Sparks fly when Rahul meets the old residents of the senior citizens' home, as they do not get on very well.

In 1960, an aspiring musician, Govind (Shahid Kapoor), meets Ruksar (Priyanka Chopra), a young woman who ran away from her home with her best friend to become a famous film star, on a train heading to Bombay, India. This is a story about an architect Raj Malhotra (Shahid Kapoor). While he was a top student in his school and college days, he is not having much luck in finding work, clients or projects. All he does, seems to go wrong. Raj goes to a gypsy named Haseena Bano Jaan (Juhi Chawla). She advises him that his luck is not good and he needs a lucky charm or a person who can change his life. Afterwards, Raj meets Priya (Vidya Balan), who is ready to help the citizens of a community by trying to save a community center. Although they do not get along at first, Raj eventually realizes that Priya is his lucky charm. Priya ends up helping Raj through sticky situations and Raj eventually figures out that she is, in fact, changing his life. Knowing this, Raj lies to Priya by telling her that he will help her save the community center, but instead, he is trying to build a shopping mall there so he can finally be recognized as an architect. He also falls in love with Priya and she too falls for him. However, when Priya finds out the truth about what Raj is trying to do, she becomes very upset and hurt. To make up for his lie, Raj sells everything he has, not caring about his job. He proposes a plan to save the community center and ends up winning Priya's love and admiration. After Priya and Raj finally get together, Raj's life changes and he becomes prosperous.

In Sultanpur, a picturesque village in Pakistan, villagers have gathered to watch a game of cricket between India and Pakistan on television. Among them is a pregnant woman (Meher Vij) who, after giving birth, names her daughter Shahida after Shahid Afridi, the player who had won the game for Pakistan. Yashvardhan "Yash" Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) is a rich businessman, living in India with his wife Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) and two sons Rahul and Rohan. Rahul is the elder son and was adopted by Yash and Nandini at birth; this is known to everyone in the Raichand household, except Rohan. When grown up, Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) comes across the vivacious Punjabi-speaking Anjali Sharma (Kajol), and they eventually fall in love; but their love is forbidden, because Anjali is from a working-class background. Yash and Nandini soon send Rohan to a Boarding School, which all the males in their family have attended. Yash announces his desire for Rahul to marry Naina (Rani Mukherji); but Naina learns that Rahul is in love with Anjali, and encourages him to pursue her. When Yash comes to know of this, he is enraged, and Rahul promises not to marry Anjali. En route to tell her of his promise, he discovers that her father (Alok Nath) has died, and decides to marry her despite his father's hostility. Yash learns of the marriage and disowns Rahul; whereupon Nandini and Rahul share a tearful goodbye. Nandini sends Sayeeda (Farida Jalal), Rahul and Rohan's nanny, to watch over him. Rahul visits Rohan in the Boarding School and begs of Rohan never to ask where he went or why he left, and asks that he take care of Nandini.
