Synopsis
En Californie au début des années 80, Brenda et Scott Kniffen mènent une vie paisible et heureuse avec leurs deux fils, Brandon et Brian. En revanche, leurs amis, les McCuan, ont plus de problèmes. Debbie raconte que sa belle-mère se mêle avec insistance de l'éducation de leurs enfants. Les McCuan demandent alors aux Kniffen de leur servir de témoins de moralité. Ils acceptent. Mais un jour, la police débarque dans la maison de Brenda et Scott et les emmène. La belle-mère de Debbie, convaincue que ses petites-filles ont été victimes de violences sexuelles, a réussi à faire impliquer les Kniffen. Le couple se voit accusé de pédophilie.Actors

Sally (Susan Sarandon) is a young waitress in an Atlantic City casino who has dreams of becoming a blackjack dealer in Monte Carlo. Sally's estranged husband Dave (Robert Joy) returns to her one day with the intention of selling a large amount of cocaine that he had stolen in Philadelphia and meets Lou (Burt Lancaster), an aging former gangster who lives in Sally's apartment building and runs numbers in poor areas of the city; he also acts as a caretaker for Grace (Kate Reid), an elderly invalid. Dave convinces Lou to sell the cocaine for him, but as Lou sells the first batch, Dave is attacked and killed by the mobsters from whom he had stolen the drugs.

On July 2, 1937, Amelia Earhart (Hilary Swank) and her navigator, Fred Noonan (Christopher Eccleston), are on the last leg of an around-the-world flight. Moving in vignettes from her early years when Earhart was captivated by the sight of an aircraft flying overhead on the Kansas prairie where she grew up, her life over the preceding decade gradually unfolds. As a young woman, she is recruited by publishing tycoon and eventual husband, George Putnam (Richard Gere) to become the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean, albeit as a passenger. Taking command of the flight results in a success and she is thrust into the limelight as the most famous woman pilot of her time. Putnam helps Earhart write a book chronicling the flight, much like his earlier triumph with Charles Lindbergh's We. Earhart gradually falls in love with Putnam and they eventually marry, although she enacts a "cruel" pledge as her wedding contract.
