Synopsis
À Paris, le "Temple de Beauté", la clinique de chirurgie esthétique du Docteur Maurice Lamar, attire une clientèle internationale. Un des plus grands succès de Lamar est Eve Caron, à qui il a donné une perfection visuelle. Toutefois, Marcel, le mari d'Eve, lui reproche d'avoir changé l'apparence de sa femme. Lorsque ses derniers bandages sont retirés, Eve embrasse Lamar, mais il lui répond qu'il ne peut l'aimer que comme Pygmalion aimait Galatée. Lamar demande ensuite ostensiblement à Annie, sa jolie secrétaire, de venir dans son appartement, pour travailler à son nouveau livre. Mais Eve les interrompt et Annie quitte l'appartement en pleurs. De son côté, Marcel demande le divorce. Plus tard, Eve et Lamar passent leur lune de miel sur la Côte d'Azur, Lamar étant l'invité d'une conférence internationale. Annie rencontre Marcel, qui est lui aussi sur la Côte d'Azur, et ils dînent ensemble. Lorsque Lamar quitte Eve et revient à Paris, il trouve sa clinique en plein chaos du fait de l'absence d'Annie. Pour la première fois, il dit à une cliente de retourner à son mari comme elle est. Eve se marie finalement avec Rolando, un homme amoureux de son apparence. Annie démissionne en disant à Lamar qu'elle va épouser Marcel. Lamar poursuit la voiture du couple et cause un accident. Lorsqu'Annie se rend compte que Marcel porte une perruque, elle avoue son amour à Lamar et ils s'embrassent.Actors

Johnny Case (Cary Grant), a self-made man who has worked all of his life, is about to marry Julia Seton (Doris Nolan), whom he met while on holiday in Lake Placid, New York. He knows very little about his bride-to-be, and is flabbergasted to learn that she is from an extremely wealthy family, the daughter of banker Edward Seton (Henry Kolker). The film is the story of a deaf-mute young woman, Belinda McDonald (Jane Wyman), who is befriended by the new doctor, Dr. Robert Richardson (Lew Ayres), who comes to Cape Breton Island on the east coast of Canada. The doctor realizes that, although she cannot hear or speak, Belinda is very intelligent. She lives on a farm with her father, Black McDonald (Charles Bickford), and her aunt, Aggie McDonald (Agnes Moorehead), and rarely goes into town. The family sells farm goods to the nearby town, mainly flour. Her father and aunt resent Belinda because her mother died giving birth to her. Dr. Richardson teaches Belinda sign language and what things are. Over time, his affection for her grows.

Boxer and amateur pilot Joe Pendleton (Robert Montgomery), affectionately known as "the Flying Pug", flies his small aircraft to his next fight in New York City, but crashes when a control cable severs. His soul is "rescued" by 7013 (Edward Everett Horton), an officious angel who assumed that Joe could not have survived. Joe's manager, Max "Pop" Corkle (James Gleason), has his body cremated. In the afterlife, the records show his death was a mistake; he was supposed to live for 50 more years. The angel's superior, Mr. Jordan (Claude Rains), confirms this, but since there is no more body, Joe will have to take over a newly dead corpse. Mr. Jordan explains that a body is just something that is worn, like an overcoat; inside, Joe will still be himself. Joe insists that it be someone in good physical shape, because he wants to continue his boxing career. Joe keeps saying the body they find "has to be in the pink".

Lorsque Gerald l'accuse de n'avoir aucune idée de ce qu'est d'être une épouse, de colère elle accepte le divorce, alors qu'elle l'aime encore et qu'elle n'a en réalité pas d'amant. Lisa insiste pour que Flora soit présente alors qu'ils discutent des aspects financiers du divorce et invite le couple à assister à son spectacle à l'opéra et à la rejoindre pour dîner ensuite. Finalement Gerald et Lisa se réconcilient et décident de partir en Amérique du Sud.
