Kunjananthante Kada is a 2013 Malayalam drama film written and directed by Salim Ahamed. The film stars Mammootty in the titular role, as a shopkeeper, alongside debutante actress Nyla Usha while Salim Kumar and Balachandra Menon play other pivotal roles. The story is about a small-time shopkeeper in Kannur and his attempt to find his own place in a rapidly changing world.

The film features original background score composed by Issaq Thomas Kottukapally. The songs featured in the film are composed by M. Jayachandran. Madhu Ambat is the cinematographer, while sound design, sound editing & sound mixing are handled by Resul Pookutty. This is the first film in Malayalam in which Resul is doing synchronized sound recording or sync sound, though Resul's debut in Malayalam happened in 2009 , Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja and sync sound was used in many Malayalam films before this. The film's shooting commenced in February 2013. It released on August 30, 2013. Mammootty won Asianet Film Award for Best Actor.

Synopsis

The story of Kunjananthante Kada is set in a village around the Mattannur-Iritty area of Kannur, Kerala. Kunjananthan (Mammootty) manages a provision store the village. Resigned to an unhappy marriage, it is this shop that is at the centre of his existence. The owner of the building pleads with him to vacate the shop so he may settle his debts, but Kunjananthan does not relent. Eviction, however, seems unavoidable when the government tries to acquire land for a road development project. Kunjanthan's travails to retain the shop form the second-half of the film.

Arakkal Kuttikrishnan Nair (Narayanan Nair) loses the civil case against Arackal Madhavanunni (Mammootty), his nephew, and has to give up the ancestral home, which he has been holding illegally for past long years. Patteri Shivaraman Nair (Saikumar), son of Kuttikrishnan Nair, takes it as a presitige issue and decides to finish out Madhavanunni, with the help of Nedungadi (Bheeman Raghu), his trusted lieutenant. Sivaraman Nair has a deep hatred and enmity towards Madhavanuni since childhood and both had involved in several fist fights from then. Nedungadi sends Varoli Abu (Kollam Ajith) to shoot down either Madhavanunni or one among his brothers on their arrival at the house. But the timely intervention of Madhavanunni saves all. Madhavanunni is a self made rich businessman, who owns several properties inside and outside Kerala. After the suicide of his parents, he alone had taken care of his younger brothers Raghu (Siddique), Dasan (Manoj K. Jayan), Appu (Vijayakumar) and Shankaran Kutty (Sudheesh), who all love and respect him than anything on this world. Ramankutty Kaimal (Innocent), their well wisher and old care taker of their property also enjoys a good relationship with Madhavanunni. Appu, at his college, is harassed by the son of Mambaram Bava Haji (N. F. Varghese). With the help of Kattipalli Pappan (Kalabhavan Mani), a criminal, he thrashes him out, but dies accidentally. Appu gets arrested for the murder, but is released on bail. Kattipalli Pappan is arrested for the murder, who while going to jail requests Madhavanuni to take care of his sister Lakshmi (Poornima Mohan), which Madhavanuni accepts. Madhavanunni brings Lakshmi to his home and is treated as a member of their family. Mayambaram Bawa Haji is now looking for a chance to avenge Madhavanunni for his son's death. Patteri Sivaraman lends a helping hand to Bawa Haji. One day Lakshmi is found dead at the pond and again Appu is arrested for it. Upon release from jail, Pappan is back to kill Appu for murdering his sister. But he later comes to know that it is not Appu, but Patteri Shivaraman, behind the crime to frame Appu. The rest of the story is how Madhavanunni saves Appu from jail and revenges back at Shivaraman once and for all.

The movie revolves around Thomman (Rajan P. Dev), who is a thief, and his two adopted sons, Shivan (Mammotty) and Sathyan (Lal). The story begins when they decide to mend their ways and lead a hardworking life. They own a lorry now and want to find work. Their lorry breaks down near Udumalpet. There the twists start. Now there is also Thomman and his sons with Panicker to help them and they defeat Thevar gang and take Thevar's Aid Rajakkannu or Rajappan (Salim Kumar) as their Adima means Slave. Later Thevar's daughter Poonkavanam (Laya) falls in love with Shivan. Thevar arranges Shivan's marriage with his daughter. There Kaaliyappan (Anand), who Poonkavanam's maternal uncle comes to stop the marriage. His plan success. At the marriage night Sathyan becomes a thief who robs the groom's Ornaments. Then Shivan and Sathyan Separates due to this incident. Actually Kaliyappan was its master brain. He tries to kill Sathyan and tell everyone that he escaped with the money. He killed Panicker's son by this way. But now Kaliyappan fails. Shivan come and help Sathyan. They go to Thevar’s house and reveals to him the truth about Panicker’s son and all misdeeds of Kaliyappan. After all becomes good there is a bad news for Shivan and Sathyan by Rajakkannu that Thomman due to his son’s separation attempt to suicide from a big mountain. His sons come there and Thomman tell that they would fight and Defeat him then only he stops his suicide attempt. At Last The Comical Climax Takes Place. Shivan and Sathyan beats Thomman and Thomman says -Ningalu thommanne makkalu thanne.

Dany and Bhargavi Amma develop an intimacy and they travel back together from the hospital. But Dany passes away on the way. Anyhow Bhargavi Amma decides to perform the funeral rites in the Christian manner in the compound of her house, a house of orthodox Hindus. This creates certain problems, but Bhargavi Amma decides to dare all such problems.
