It was Bresson's last film. It earned its maker the Director's Prize at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival.
Synopsis
A young man enters his father's study to claim a monthly allowance. His father obliges, but the son presses for more, citing a debt at school he must pay. The father dismisses him and an appeal to his mother fails. This leads him to pawn off his watch to a friend who, instead of paying him, provides him with a forged 500-franc note. After the trade, the youth lingers to peruse an album of nude art, with similar images to appear throughout the film.Actors

René est un ancien perceur de coffres sorti de prison depuis cinq ans qui s'est rangé, redevenant soudeur. Son fils Luc est atteint d'une maladie incurable à moins d'une opération de la dernière chance « miraculeuse et onéreuse ». Freddy, un ancien délinquant « collègue » de René lui propose de participer au casse d'une villa. René accepte pour sauver son fils grâce à une partie du butin. Mais en réalité, la soit-disant aubaine est un leurre. René et sa bande doivent servir d'appât : pendant que les policiers avertis se rendent sur le vol de la villa, Freddy et ses complices vont profiter de l'absence de surveillance du commissariat pour y dérober dix kilos d'héroïne qui y sont entreposés. René part à la poursuite de Freddy pour récupérer l'argent qui lui permettrait de sauver son fils.

The film follows Marie (Wiazemsky), a shy farm girl, and her beloved donkey Balthazar over many years. As Marie grows up, the pair becomes separated, but the film traces both their fates as they live parallel lives, continually taking abuse of all forms from the people they encounter. The donkey has several owners, most of whom exploit him, often with more cruelty than kindness. He bears his suffering with nobility and wisdom, becoming a saint in the process. Two years after the Battle of New York, Steve Rogers works in Washington D.C. for the espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D. under Director Nick Fury, while adjusting to contemporary society. A young priest arrives at Ambricourt, his new parish. He is not welcome. The girls of the catechism class laugh at him in a prank, whereby only one of them pretends to know the Scriptural basis of the Eucharist so that the rest of them can laugh at their private conversation.
