Synopsis
Mina Kacew, jeune femme juive d'origine russe, élève seule son jeune garçon Romain Kacew en Pologne. Elle imagine pour lui une carrière toute tracée d'écrivain et de diplomate, l'empêchant même de se consacrer à la peinture qu'elle déconsidère, où il montre pourtant quelque talent. Dynamique, travailleuse et douée en affaires, elle monte une petite entreprise de mode à la manière de la France, pays qu'elle admire. Le négoce est prospère jusqu'à la montée de l'antisémitisme, époque où on lui fait sentir qu'elle n'est plus la bienvenue puis dépouillée de ses biens.Actors

At the turn of the 20th century, the poor Mancuso family (headed by the widowed Salvatore, Vincenzo Amato), from Sicily, Italy, emigrates to the United States. Après avoir quitté la Marine nationale française, Jacques-Yves Cousteau veut se lancer dans l'exploration sous-marine. En 1950, il loue le bateau Calypso à un riche britannique. Le « commandant » part alors aux quatre coins du Monde, avec sa femme Simone et notamment Albert « Bebert » Falco. Ses deux fils, Philippe Cousteau et Jean-Michel Cousteau, restent en pension... Quelques années plus tard, Philippe rejoint finalement l'équipe de son père, qui tourne une série de films documentaires financés par une chaîne de télévision américaine. Philippe étant sensibilisé à l'écologie à laquelle son père est insensible, il se brouille avec lui puis, alors que les affaires de Jacques-Yves périclitent, revient auprès de lui et le sensibilise à la protection des océans et des espèces animales menacées, donnant à la carrière de son père une nouvelle orientation et un nouveau départ.

On July 2, 1937, Amelia Earhart (Hilary Swank) and her navigator, Fred Noonan (Christopher Eccleston), are on the last leg of an around-the-world flight. Moving in vignettes from her early years when Earhart was captivated by the sight of an aircraft flying overhead on the Kansas prairie where she grew up, her life over the preceding decade gradually unfolds. As a young woman, she is recruited by publishing tycoon and eventual husband, George Putnam (Richard Gere) to become the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean, albeit as a passenger. Taking command of the flight results in a success and she is thrust into the limelight as the most famous woman pilot of her time. Putnam helps Earhart write a book chronicling the flight, much like his earlier triumph with Charles Lindbergh's We. Earhart gradually falls in love with Putnam and they eventually marry, although she enacts a "cruel" pledge as her wedding contract.
