Synopsis
Chaos during the late Qing Dynasty, Liu Lai-shi (Max Mok) envies the glory of his fellow townsman and eunuch Siu-tak-cheung and asks his parents for purification. Soon, the Qing dynasty collapses, Liu failed to become an imperial eunuch and was sent to Beijing to study opera. Subsequently he meets his childhood friend Chiu Tai (Irene Wan). Liu intends to lead a normal family life, but unable to do so after his identity of a eunuch was exposed. The opera troupe leader (Sammo Hung) sympathizes Liu's life experiences and tried to arrange him to the palace to be China's last eunuch. In 1924, Xuantong Emperor was expelled from the Forbidden City and Liu also began his wandering career.Actors

The film is set in China in 370 BC during the Warring States period. A massive army from the Zhao state is on its way to attack the Yan state. Liang, a city-state on the Zhao–Yan border, is in peril of being conquered by the Zhao army. Ge Li, a Mohist, comes to Liang to help defend the city. Although the King of Liang has already planned for peace talks with the invaders, Ge Li manages to convince him and the people of Liang to put up resistance by warning them of the consequences of surrendering. He also promises the King that the invaders will give up on Liang if they fail to conquer it within a month, because their main target is actually the Yan state. The King has doubts about Ge Li's idea but still puts Ge in command of his army.

This drama highlights the social problems of single parents struggling to raise children. Leslie Cheung plays the role of a retired fund-manager, Wing who lost his entire fortune in a financial mishap and was severely depressed until he discovered an abandoned baby boy in his yacht which he has not sold off at that time. He sought to raise the baby as his own son, encountering many happy moments even though he was not financially sound. His happiness is cruelly cut short a few years later as the now toddler's real mother returns and wishes to raise her own son again, while he attempts to prevent this as he loved his adopted son very much. The final touching scene depicts the inevitable as his beloved adopted son followed his mother into her luxury car while Wing fought back tears despite him voluntarily relenting into allowing the child to leave.
