Il s'agit de l'adaptation du roman Samana Kūkai (沙門空海唐の国にて鬼と宴) de Baku Yumemakura, nom de plume de Yoneyama Mineo.
Synopsis
Sous la dynastie Tang (618–907), un démon-chat apparaît et sème le trouble dans la ville de Chang'an , provoquant une série d’événements étranges (les hommes de pouvoir meurent tous les uns après les autres). Le poète chinois Bai Letian et le moine bouddhiste japonais Kūkai s'allient alors pour enquêter sur la mort de la Concubine Yang, suivant la piste laissée par le démon et révélant un secret jusqu'ici bien gardé.Actors

The film covers much of Ying Zheng's career, recalling his early experiences as a hostage and foreshadowing his dominance over China. It depicts him essentially as an idealist seeking to impose a peace or unity on the world despite various betrayals and losses. Its story consists in the main of three incidents: the attempt by Jing Ke to assassinate Ying Zheng in 227 BCE; the rumour of a Chief Minister's having sired the latter before transferring his concubine to become the Queen Dowager; and the (possibly fictitious) story of an official having sired children by the Queen Dowager herself. The first incident plays out only at the end of the film, but earlier scenes foreshadow it; the other two incidents occur between the fictional genesis and historical manifestation of the first.

À la fin de la Révolution Culturelle, un jeune homme de la ville est envoyé à la campagne pour réaliser son tour de travail agricole. Arrivé dans la région montagneuse isolée du Yuan, à sa surprise, on lui demande de devenir instituteur, alors même qu'il lui manque les qualifications nécessaires. Il décide alors de ne pas suivre le programme des livres Mao, qu'il juge peu intéressant car il comprend des exercices tels que recopier les caractères du dictionnaire. Liu Cheng (Liu Peiqi) is a widowed cook making his living in a small southern town in China. His thirteen-year-old son, Liu Xiaochun (Tang Yun), is a violin prodigy. In the hope that Xiaochun might find success as a violinist, Liu Cheng and Xiaochun travel to Beijing to participate in a competition organized by the Children's Palace, an arts institution for school children.
