The story opens in a Western saloon, where a young musician with a banjo begins to tell a tale of Lucky Luke and his sworn enemies the Dalton brothers: Joe, William, Jack and Averell. Luke has, once again, as he has done many times before, thrown the four outlaws into jail. The prison is also the abode of a guard dog named Rin Tin Can (Rantanplan in the original French language version).

Crossing the plains, a wagon train comes across a solitary daisy growing out of the vast wasteland. The leader of the expedition decides that the rest of their party will set up their new town on the site. In honor of the flower, the citizens name the new homestead, 'Daisy Town. After a heated argument with Julius Caesar over his lack of faith in the Egyptian people, Queen Cleopatra enters into a bet claiming that she can have a magnificent palace constructed for him in Alexandria within three months. She gives this enormous task to her best architect Edifis (despite his shortcomings), informing him that he will be covered with gold if he succeeds or thrown to the crocodiles if he fails. Daunted and distraught, believing the task to be insurmountable without some sort of magic, Edifis travels to Gaul to seek help from the famous druid Getafix.

After a group of legionaries is once again beaten up by the gauls, they imagine: "With such huge strength, they can't be human... they must be gods". Julius Caesar is informed, and laughs. He makes a decision with his council and goes to Armorica, to speak with Vitalstatistix. He gives the Gauls a series of 12 tasks, inspired by Hercules (but new ones, since the 12 Labours are outdated). Vitalstatistix assembles their best warriors, Asterix and Obelix, to do the job. The Roman Caius Tiddlus is sent along with them to guide them and check they complete each task.

Il neige, fait froid dehors et chaud à l'intérieur où Jerry est occupé à armer une souricière sous un arbre de Noël chargé de cadeaux. Confondant Tom dormant pour un jouet en peluche, Jerry réveille le chat et une course effrénée s'ensuit. Différents jouets viennent à la rescousse de Jerry comme il file. Butch, Topsy et Boulette viennent rendre visite à Tom en ayant amené un film intitulé "Tom le Dur-à-cuir" ("Tom the Terrific Cat" en anglais) contenant trois parties "tournées par Butch" où Tom maltraite Spike. Jerry essaye e regarder le film avec les chats mais Tom puis Butch le mettent à la porte. La première partie, nommée Le Tombeur voit Tom frapper Spike avec une brique, la deuxième partie Chien nigaud voit Tom essayer d'aller à la pêche en roulant Spike. La troisième partie Un Nouvel Espoir pour les Chats voit Tom maltraiter un Spike attaché. Jerry réveille le chien qui voit Tom, Butch, Topsy et Boulette se moquer de lui. Mais Spike finit par poursuivre les quatre chats tandis que Jerry filme la poursuite.

Tom, en lisant dans un journal qu'une récompense sera offerte à ceux qui amèneront à l'animalerie une souris blanche, peint Jerry en blanc. En l'amènant dans l'animalerie, Tom obtient de l'argent. En rentrant, il range ses billets sous un tapis mais Joan, sa maîtresse, les ramasse en croyant « qu'ils sont tombés du ciel ». Tom devient alors mécontent. Joan achète une souris blanche qui est en fait Jerry peint en blanc. S'étant fait narguer par ce dernier, Tom essaie de le frapper mais Joan le met dehors. S'étant fait mis dehors plusieurs autres fois après plusieurs essais ratés, Tom se peint alors en blanc afin de faire croire à Joan qu'il est un chat blanc. Tom promet ironiquement à cette dernière de bien s'entendre avec Jerry mais en fait le brutalise.
