Synopsis
Animatrice dans une station de radio, Catherine vit avec Julien, cadre supérieur dans le secteur de l'alimentation. Ils ont deux enfants, Sébastien, jeune homme un peu paresseux et artiste en herbe, et Sophie, étudiante brillante toujours à la recherche de l'âme soeur. Anciens soixante-huitards, ils ne s'étaient pas mariés et ont enfin décidé, après 25 ans de compagnonnage, de passer devant M. le maire. Mais le jour de la cérémonie, Catherine, à la surprise générale, refuse et part sans laisser de traces. Six mois plus tôt ... Dans leur maison bourgeoise de la banlieue parisienne, Catherine et Julien se préparent à recevoir la nouvelle petite amie de Sébastien, Capucine. Ils découvrent, stupéfaits, qu'elle est enceinte de leur fils. Et s'ils ne se sentent prisonniers d'aucun préjugé, la nouvelle «recrue» ébranle quelque peu leurs convictions. D'autant qu'elle se révèle très envahissante et provoque bientôt une véritable tempête dans la famille.Actors

Rémi (Patrick Dewaere) is a struggling pianist with a wife named Martine (Nicole Garcia), a model who is getting too old to find desirable work, and a 14-year-old stepdaughter Marion (Ariel Besse). When Martine is killed in a car crash, Marion expresses her desire to stay with Rémi in their apartment, but is taken away by her father Charly (Maurice Ronet), an alcoholic who dislikes Rémi. Marion comes back, much to her father's disapproval, and takes up babysitting to help make ends meet while Rémi gives piano lessons. Woodrow "Woody" Wilkins is an imaginative, yet eccentric, comic book writer and illustrator who demands a sense of realism for his comic book hero "Condorman", to the point where he crafts a Condorman flying suit of his own and launches himself off the Eiffel Tower. The test flight fails as his right wing breaks, sending him crashing into the Seine River. Later after the incident, Woody is asked by his friend, CIA file clerk Harry, to perform what appears to be a civilian paper swap in Istanbul. Upon arriving in Istanbul, he meets a beautiful Soviet named Natalia Rambova, who poses as the Soviet civilian with whom the exchange is supposed to take place, but it is later revealed that she is in fact a KGB spy. Woody does not tell Natalia his real name, and instead fabricates his identity to her as a top American agent code-named "Condorman". During the encounter, Woody fends off a group of would-be assassins and saves her life by sheer luck before accomplishing the paper trade. Impressed by Woody, and disgusted by how she was treated by her lover/boss Krokov when she returns to Moscow, Natalia decides to defect and asks the CIA to have "Condorman" be the agent that helps her.

At the start we see "David" Jean-Louis Trintignant as a prisoner in some sort of torture chamber, a row of cells whose occupants, in straitjackets, are chained to their beds. David manages to escape from custody. On the run, he arrives at the home of a couple living in an isolated farmhouse (Marlène Jobert and Philippe Noiret). He claims that he is in possession of an important secret, one that he came across by chance, that is so terrible that the authorities will do anything to protect it. He predicts, correctly, that the state will soon mobilize all its resources to find him, using as a cover story the claim that a paranoid killer is on the loose from an asylum. The couple are unsure whether to believe him, but give him some assistance. Whether David is an unlucky but innocent fugitive or is the psychopath described by the police and press remains a mystery until the last moment of the film.
