The book club is the brainchild of fiftysomething six-time divorcée Bernadette, who latches onto the idea when she meets Prudie, a prim, married high school French teacher in her mid-20s, at a Jane Austen film festival. Her concept is to have six members discuss all of Austen's six novels, with each member hosting the group once a month. Also inducted into the club are Sylvia, a fortysomething librarian who recently has separated from her philandering lawyer husband Daniel after more than two decades of marriage; Sylvia's 20-something lesbian daughter Allegra; Jocelyn, a happily unmarried control freak and breeder of Rhodesian Ridgebacks who has been Sylvia's friend since childhood; and Grigg, a science fiction fan who's roped into the group by Jocelyn with the hope he and Sylvia will prove to be a compatible match., 1h34

Yumi Fukuzawa (Honoka Miki) has been attending Lillian Girls' Academy, a Catholic high school, for about six months when one day, while praying in front of the Virgin Mary statue near the school entrance, she is approached by second-year student Sachiko Ogasawara (Haru) who straightens Yumi's uniform neckerchief. Yumi's classmate Tsutako Takeshima (Alice Hirose) later shows her that she took a photograph of Yumi's meeting with Sachiko earlier that morning. Tsutako agrees to give Yumi the photo, but only if she can display it at the upcoming school festival and get Sachiko's permission to do so as well. As Sachiko is a member of the Yamayuri Council, which acts as the student council, they head over to the Rose Mansion on campus, the meeting place of the council. Yumi and Tsutako are waiting outside in the hallway while the council is having a meeting when Sachiko bursts out of the room and knocks Yumi and herself down. Sachiko apologizes and is about to leave, but Tsutako shows her the photo and asks her permission to display it. Sachiko takes Yumi back into the meeting room, followed by Tsutako, and tells the other members that she has chosen Yumi to be her petite sœur., 1h35

The film tells the story of Sissy Hankshaw, a woman born with a mutation (she would not call it a defect) giving her enormously large thumbs. The film is a transgressive romp, covering topics from homosexuality and free love to drug use and political rebellion to animal rights and body odor and religions. Sissy makes the most of her thumbs by becoming a hitchhiker. Her travels take her to New York, where she becomes a model for a transvestite feminine hygiene products mogul, known as The Countess, who introduces her to the man whom she will marry, an asthmatic, staid Mohawk named Julian Gitche. In her later travels, she encounters, among many others, a sexually open cowgirl named Bonanza Jellybean and an itinerant escapee from the Japanese internment camps happily mislabeled "The Chink"., 1h25

Seventeen-year-old Megan (Natasha Lyonne) is a sunny high school senior who loves cheerleading and is dating football player Jared (Brandt Wille). She does not enjoy kissing Jared, however, and prefers looking at her fellow cheerleaders. Combined with Megan's interest in vegetarianism and Melissa Etheridge, her family and friends suspect that Megan is in fact a lesbian. With the help of ex-gay Mike (RuPaul), they surprise her with an intervention. Following this confrontation, Megan is sent to True Directions, a reparative therapy camp which uses a five-step program (similar to Alcoholics Anonymous' twelve-step program) to convert its campers to heterosexuality.
